As a result, the trading year 2006 has seen renewed growth, this time to the tune of ten per cent (deliveries in the previous year totalled 401,004). In the German market, a rise of nearly nine per cent to 123,032 deliveries also led to a new all-time record (previous year: 113,335). The Caddy, T5 and Crafter series, all manufactured in Europe, achieved a combined increase in worldwide sales of 8.5 per cent to 352,463 delivered vehicles (against the previous year’s figure of 324,722). The Caddy, a light-weight city delivery van, recorded the best sales results in the history of the model. Worldwide deliveries rose by 8.8 percent to 136,730 vehicles (125,722 in the previous year). The best-seller in the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles range, the T5 series (which includes the Transporter, Caravelle, Multivan and California), also reports another brilliant year of record sales figures in 2006. Worldwide deliveries of this vehicle were up by 7.4 percent to 182,037 units (against the 168,531 sold the year before). The newcomer in the brand’s programme, the Crafter, achieved a excellent launch of sales. Together with the predecessor model LT, a total of 41,837 units were marketed to customers. This figure denotes a rise of 7.4 per cent against the 2005 figure (previous year: 35,943). From the trucks and buses production in Brazil 36,974 units were sold worldwide. Compared with the 2005, this denotes a rise in sales of 4.1 per cent (previous year: 35,512). “The continuing achievement of record delivery figures to the international markets shows that a growing number of customers is coming to appreciate the added value of our vehicles,” says Harald Schomburg, the member of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Brand in charge of sales and marketing. “In Western Europe and Germany, our models are the driving force for growth.” |
