Call of Duty 2
Publisher: Activision
Developer: Infinity Ward
Genre: First-person shooter
ESRB Rating: Teen
Price: 59.99
Release Date: November 15

War is hell, but Activision's latest offering sure is fun too. We've had the opportunity to get our hands on this little gem quite a bit lately, and Call of Duty 2 does not disappoint on any front. Its strongest weapon? Outstanding enemy AI. Not only do enemies run at the site of grenades, they run at the sight of you. That's right. Gone are the days of mindlessly firing one round every ten seconds without any cover in broad daylight. The Germans are going to run, dive, hide, flank and do everything but cook you breakfast, they are that smart. Good luck soldier. Yer gonna need it.

FIFA Soccer 06 Road to World Cup
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Developer: EA Canada
Genre: Sports
ESRB Rating: Everyone
Price: 59.99
Release Date: November 15

The road to the World Cup goes through FIFA Soccer 06 as EA inked an exclusive partnership, and that may be a good thing. While FIFA has long fought for supremacy on the soccer pitch against Konami's Winning Eleven series, the visuals in the next-generation version of EA's offering are so outstanding that you may be stripping down to your sports bra before you can say "GGGGGGOOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLL." The team at EA Canada continues the trend in FIFA games to eliminate the arcade, dribble-end-to-end-and-bicycle-kick-it-in style in favor of a more fan-friendly simulation style. Experience a newly enhanced gameplay engine that delivers extremely responsive controls and greater level of depth, new physics and animations.

Gun
Publisher: Activision
Developer: Neversoft Entertainment
Genre: Third-Person Shooter
ESRB Rating: Mature
Price: 59.99
Release Date: November 15

A Western shooter mixing first and third-person viewpoints, this simplistically titled game is far from a generic shooter clad in chaps and a holster. It's a bloody and gruesome action-adventure title in which Neversoft is intent on capturing the wild nature of the American West in the late 19th Century. This original story follows the life of Colton White, reared as a mountain man in Montana close to the headwaters of Missouri. He accompanies his father, Ned White, to a steamboat to meet a friend, and quickly after, all hell breaks loose. The game offers free-roaming exploration as well as set story missions and side missions.

Kameo: Elements of Power
Publisher: Microsoft
Developer: Rare
Genre: Third-Person Adventure
ESRB Rating: Teen
Price: 49.99
Release Date: November 22

Blending the heady thrills of exploration and puzzle-solving with the adrenaline rush of real-time 3D battles, Kameo: Elements of Power is an ambitious title from the makers of GoldenEye and Banjo-Kazooie. The concept mixes combat action with creature transformations, letting the title's female star morph into monsters and use their special powers against others as Kameo searches out and battles ever-present evil.

Madden NFL 06
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Developer: Tiburon
Genre: Sports
ESRB Rating: Everyone
Price: 59.99
Release Date: November 15

Will John Madden's trademark "Boom!" make it into the next generation Madden NFL 06? Why not, because EA has included everything else for the Xbox 360 version, including a bundle of new facial expressions, tackling animations and - get this - they even have NFL stadiums down to the smallest detail, including drainage pipes. Yes, drainage pipes. After every play, weather conditions and time will change. Shadows will grow longer, the sun will set, uniforms will dirty. Also new is a streamlined play-calling system and revamped franchise mode. Throw in the traditional excellence that is Madden gameplay, and we have all the components for a Super Bowl run.

NBA Live 06
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Developer: EA Canada
Genre: Sports
ESRB Rating: Everyone
Price: 59.99
Release Date: November 15

As EA's first foray into next-generation basketball, NBA Live 06 appears to be a decent effort. The visuals are brilliant, offering excellent detail from sweat to tattoos to gorgeous flowing hair. When Steve Nash makes a layup, his hair looks like a Pantene Pro V commercial, it's that cool. Live has a lot to live up to considering this iteration offers only a single season mode and not a true franchise mode. EA wants to fine-tune the meat and potatoes of the game, which is the gameplay, before it adds a franchise mode. If that's true, than Live 06 could play superbly as the current-generation version is becoming an office addiction. Let's hope it's true.

NBA 2K6
Publisher: 2K Games
Developer: Visual Concepts
Genre: Sports
ESRB Rating: Everyone
Price: 59.99
Release Date: November 15

Has any sports title ever looked this good? Check out the screenshots on NBA 2K6 and bask in the superb player models and faces. These guys look good. I mean really good. If 2K6 can bring back the traditionally-solid gameplay of its previous versions, along with the innovative and addicting 24/7 mode, then 2K6 may reign as king of the next-generation courts. Elevate your game by utilizing the innovative V.I.P. system to challenge profiles of friends and other 2K6 players across the country that match their gameplay tendencies down to every minute detail. Then head over to The Crib to customize your pad, buy music and unlock mini-games with crib credits earned playing the game.

NHL 2K6

Publisher: 2K Sports
Developer: Kush Games
Genre: Sports
ESRB Rating: Everyone
Price: 59.99

It's going to be a white Christmas for hockey fans. That's because NHL 2K6 features such amazing animations and graphical upgrades for the Xbox 360 version that you can actually spray ice on dimwitted opponents. Dominate the ice with NHL-caliber skating, checking and puck handling with the deeply enhanced goaltending system developed with cover boy Marty Turco. This is what hockey gamers have been waiting: crease control.

Peter Jackson's King Kong
Publisher: Ubisoft
Developer: Ubisoft France/Ubisoft Montreal
Genre: Action
ESRB Rating: Teen
Price: 59.99
Release Date: November 29

Based on the upcoming, sure-to-be blockbuster helmed by Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson, King Kong is literally a beast of a game. The majority of the game is a first-person shooter as you control human survivor and try to gun down dinosaurs with pistols (if those don't work, try an ice age). The remainder of the game is in the hands, or mitts, of King Kong himself as you can swing ala Tarzan on vines and wrestle with a T-Rex. Jackson and his WETA team helped create a lush jungle backdrop used in the film, and Skull Island never looked so good.

Quake 4
Publisher: Activision
Developer: id Software
Genre: first-person shooter
ESRB Rating: Mature
Price: 59.99
Release Date: November 15

You will be hard-pressed to find a better shooter than the Quake series, and that trend will continue through the next generation. In id's infamous shooter series (built on the DOOM 3 engine), you are Matthew Kane, an elite member of Rhino Squad and Earth's valiant invasion force. Fight alone, with your squad, and in hover tanks and mechanized walkers as you engage in a heroic mission into the heart of the Strogg empire. But, in this epic war between worlds, the only way to defeat the Strogg is to become one of them. Battle through early missions as a deadly marine, then after your capture, as a marine-turned-Strogg with enhanced abilities and the power to turn the tide of the war. Even in early builds, the graphics blew our minds, as well as the new vehicles and the evil Strogg war machine.

Ridge Racer 6
Publisher: Namco
Developer: Namco
Genre: Racing
ESRB Rating: Everyone
Price: 59.99
Release Date: November 22

The excellent analog swing returns while players can now use the right analog stick to control the trajectory and spin of the ball. Take on friend or foe while competing online over Xbox Live. Also included are ten professional hackers like John Daly and six licensed golf courses like Pebble Beach and Riviera Country Club that look and play like the real thing. Minus the greens fees, they look even better.

Tony Hawk's American Wasteland
Publisher: Activision
Developer: Neversoft
Genre: First-person shooter
ESRB Rating: Teen
Price: 59.99

Not only can you skate and BMX, but Neversoft has finely tuned the on-foot aspect of the game making it actually, well, a kick. And talk about an L.A. rush, you'll love the nicely re-created metropolis that features something like the "greatest hits" sections of the city. The only thing that could make it more authentic is an increase in plastic surgeons. Don't forget that loading times have been eliminated as each area streams seamlessly into the next. Throw in online play via Xbox Live and we have ourselves two choices this autumn: skate or die, dude

Re: So i am getting a XBOX 360...

Thanks Klier. I think i will go for Perfect Dark or Quake 4.
I had played Quake 2 endless hours in deathmatches against my cousin some years ago (PS One). One of the best games ever. Quake 3 on PS2 was not that good for some strange reason.

Re: So i am getting a XBOX 360...

Quake 4 and Perfect Dark Zero are both FPS (first person shooters), I seriously would not get two of the same genre games at launch, unless you're really into FPS games.
Perfect Dark Zero is exclusively for the Xbox 360, made by the guys at Rare, a development company Microsoft bought from Nintendo for more than $250 million. They have proved themselves big time in the past with classics like Donkey Kong Country for the Super Nintendo and Goldeneye for the Nintendo 64. Quake on the other hand really is a game more suitable for the PC platform (more/bigger online community and controls made for a keyboard)

Yannis, I would get Perfect Dark Zero (will get very good reviews and will be Microsoft's launch game system seller) from those two games.

Re: So i am getting a XBOX 360...

Ok thanks. I usually buy 5-6 games each year while i hire a few others and return them after finishing them.
I will probably go for Perfect Dark. Thanks.
How about you? Are you getting a 360 also?

I think the PS3 will outdo the Xbox but we'll have to see.

The problem is that I didn't preorder and it looks like everything is out of stock... So I'll probably have to go out to wallmart the day it comes out and fight the rush. Problem is, you have to buy it in bundle. So the cheapest bundle is 600 dollars. Quite a lot of money.

But I think my roomates and I are going to split it.

Need for speed looks like a lot of fun... they brought back the cops and the super cars/

Get Perfect Dark Zero, I loved Perfect Dark on the Nintendo 64 and I think this game will even be better then the first.
