Re: PAL Playstation 3 delayed until March 2007

This seems very bad, they are missing Christmas by a few months, a time when they could sell many more, than in March!

If I was them, I'd leave it a year and add new features!

Re: PAL Playstation 3 delayed until March 2007

LOL... Sony really messed up the PS3 launch!

Add the fact that it's overpriced, they might have a catastrophy on their hands!

Re: PAL Playstation 3 delayed until March 2007

I just have to point and laugh.

Over the years Sony has tried, unsuccessfully, to force its media standards on consumers. It started with Betamax, continued with MiniDisc, and lives on today with Memory Sticks, PSP VCDs. and their idiotic ATRAC file format.

It goes without saying that the stakes are very high for the next generation of high-definition DVDs. The contenders are Toshiba with their HD DVD format and Sony with their Blu Ray format. Because of this, Sony has decided to make the PS3 a kind of trojan horse for the format. Unfortunately, the avaibility of Blu Ray components hasn't really coincided with healthy release schedules, so Sony gets the honor of missing yet another Christmas seasion in the Euro Zone.

Not just that though - supplies are bound to be mercilessly thin in the US and Japan. So Sony's installed base coming into 2007 will be less than half the size of where it should be.

I like that Sony has prepped a no-compromise hardware solution for their new console, but I can't spare them any sympathy when their lust to collect billions in future DVD royalties causes them to step on their dick.

If you really want a Blu Ray player the PS3 is going to be an absolute bargin. Stand alone players are selling for about $1,000 - the PS3 will be "only" $600.

Re: PAL Playstation 3 delayed until March 2007

This might be a very bad news for thousands of Sony fan boys around europe but from a business point of view this is a good move from Sony. M$ decided to launch 360 world wide at the same time and as some of you may know there were barely any consoles to be bought 2-3 months after the launch. Therefor it might be better to satisfy a few regions at the time, rather then trying meet a world wide demand and not fail miserably.

Uhm...no.

400k for U.S and 100k for Japan HARDLY is enough. For comparison, PS2 sold around 700k systems just in Japan the first weekend it launched

Re: PAL Playstation 3 delayed until March 2007

Nothing about an unwanted delay is a good move. It's just pick your poison time, becuase the situation is spiraling out of control.

There's throngs of execs over at Sony who are probably on the verge of having a stroke because of this stuff. Every day that slips by is millions of dollars lost.
