![]() ![]() ![]() | Sony Computer Entertainment Europe VIP gives PS3 price range Not official yet, but better believe it: SCEE VP Gives PS3 Price Range System could come in around $600 dollars. April 5, 2006 - During an interview with Générations Europe 1 yesterday, Georges Fornay, the president of Sony Computer France and the vice president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe alluded to the possible price of the PS3 for the November worldwide launch, along with some other details. Along with explaining that the system is the only next generation system thanks to its implementation of Blu-Ray and full HD visuals (as well as praising the other features of the console), he also explained that the delay of the system was due to the finalizing of digital rights management for the Blu-Ray standard. When asked about the rumors that the console would cost 500 dollars, Fornay stated that getting a system that supported HD quality video, Blu-ray support and the other features at a price around 500 Euros ($613 U.S.). This is easily the most specific information that has been provided about - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER upcoming system since Ken Kutaragi's comments about wanting "consumers to think to themselves 'I will work more hours to buy one.'" While there has been no official response from SCEA on Fournay's comments, it is only fair to guess that the price won't necessarily remain that high when the system hits American shores due to price conversion. Shortly thereafter, SCEE released a statement mentioning that Fornay was not announcing a price point nor a date. It also stated that Fornay was making a personal observation, saying that the PS3 might be expensive for a - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER, but relatively cheap compared to the total number of technological features (i.e. Blu-Ray and HD playback) included. Edit; new news: Sony Clarifies PS3 Pricing Comments The company states that executive's comments were "misunderstood." by Wade Steel April 6, 2006 - Sony stated today that comments regarding the price of the PlayStation 3 made by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) executive Georges Fornay on French radio were "misinterpreted", according to a report at gamesindustry.biz. Nick Sharples, SCEE corporate communications director, told the industry website that the notion that Fornay's mention of a price range of €499 to €599 for the next-generation console was a "mistranslation or misunderstanding of the discussion, which was actually focused on the relative value of PS3 as a Blu-ray Disc player." According to Sharples, the pricing discussion on French radio station Europe 1 was intended to focus on the fact that the PlayStation 3 would be priced "very competitively" when compared to other products that would use the Blu-ray optical technology if it were to be priced at €500, but that this pricepoint would put it "well above the range of other game console products." Sharples claimed that Fornay was explaining that with both Blu-ray and high-definition functionality, the PS3 would be "cheap" relative to other products that have these features but more expensive when compared to other "current" game consoles which retail at "far below €500." Sharples stated that any reports that suggest Fornway was providing a specific price point or price range for the PS3 were completely "incorrect." | |

![]() | Re: Sony Computer Entertainment Europe VIP gives PS3 price range klier, have a look below... ![]() The total comes to USD 800 for Year 1(yeah, I know it says USD 900 down the bottom, seems that Merrill Lynch is hiring from Harvard rather than Sloan these days... )Note the above does not include R&D + assembly costs...ouch. Now we know why Sony is such a bitch-cow with copyright for the games...if people copy games freely, then Sony will bleed red ink... |
