Re: Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2006: PS3 screens (WOW!)

Forget the numbers, just know that the qualitative experience between these two consoles is destined to be marginal. We've reached the point where the differences these machines are capable of spitting out are dependent more on the coders than the hardware itself. Major differences between the Xbox and PS3 will be things like realtime special effects and complex light refrections - stuff that'll have virtually zero impact when you're immersed in a game.

This delay has officially biffed it for Sony. Don't forget how arrogent Nintendo was when they streteched it out for the N64. They were banking on their console's technical superiority to shore up the gap in their user base - the rest is history.

Not that Sony is playing the same game Nintendo once played, but it just goes to show how, good hardware or not, you can't overcome an installed base once it hits critical mass.

Re: Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2006: PS3 screens (WOW!)

One more issue for Sony will be Blue-Ray. Aparently LG and some other manufacturers are preparing hybrid players that will play both B-R and HD DVD. Some people might decide not to buy a PS3 since it will be able to play only half of the available HD material available.

Anyway for the time being there is only one system on the market, the XBox 360 of which i 'm a proud owner. Can't wait for the release of Far Cry Predator.

Re: Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2006: PS3 screens (WOW!)

Don't eat too much intot he pictures. The majority of them look pre-rendered and tells me absoutley nothinga bout the type of graphic that the PS3 will be able to view. I'll wait for real in-game movies untill I bow and start saving money for one.

Re: Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2006: PS3 screens (WOW!)

Almost all of the demos presented at GDC were real-time. Quite a few gaming sites mentioned that the demos were running real-time directly off development hardware. But hey, E3's coming up in a few months, and there'll be a few playable ps3 games there.

Seems like deja vu, doesn't it? We were told the same things when the PS2 rolled around. Sure, maybe the demos were running on real PS3 hardware. But there's a significant difference between an on-the-fly render, and an actual in-game render. Just expect Xbox 360'ish graphics with some whipped cream on top. What more could Sony possibly deliver?

Have you played Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter yet Yannis? Graphically that is
one of the best looking 360 games to date. I also heard that Oblivion was great too.

If that game comes out for real, as it is, I'll buy 360 just for that.
