![]() | Re: Nintendo Wii Slaughters Sony PS3 in Sales! comparing the Wii to the PS3 is like comparing the M3 to a supercar. ya the wii sold more than twice as much but the PS3 sold for each unit going almost 3 times as much as the Wii. |

In fact many consumer electronics experts say that apart fron the blu ray the two systems are more or less equal in capabilities with the 360 being much easier to program (very important for developers). |

Thus far, the Zelda game has been very well recieved, and is very representative of the "Alpha Male" type game that makes up the core of the industry. |

The formula by which consoles do battle has changed from what we dealt with in the past. Graphic performance is definitely why the SNES eventually surpassed the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive, good 3D titles is what gave the PlayStation the jump on the Sega Saturn and a lack of horsepower is why the Sega Dreamcast eventually captulated in the face of the XBox and PS2. But now we've hit the wall of deminishing returns on what our consoles can do, and what kind of response it gets out of us. No doubt, the PS3 has the potential to deliver astonighing graphics - but maybe astonishing graphics are becoming passé. Sure, I can see chunks of brain flying out of a zombies skull when I blast it with my assult rifle, but the overall effect isn't terribly different from same zombie game ported onto the 360 or Wii. I could be wrong, but this time around massive processing horsepower could be the least important component in the gaming equation. The PS3 will up the ante with more sophisticated environments, but then again, so will programmers finesse better performance out of the 360 and Wii.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | does anyone recall that when the PS3 was officially unveiled with this normal sc-fi game pad and then they resorted to going back to the old PS2 gamepad. wat was up with that? The irony of the whole thing is that when Sony saw the Wii's trump card was their motion sensing controller, they decided to hijack that technology for the PS3. Even then, its still being out sold by the Wii! |

The issues that developers are having with the Cell processor might be a nonissue if the PlayStation hits the critical mass that makes it a lucrative platform for 3rd parties. On the other hand, if Sony's sales still trail by a wide margin after Christmas 2007, it may be too late. The race is still wide open. I really can't predict where Wii and PS3 will be one year from now, but for now it looks like Sony has plenty to worry about. Especially critical is that Wii has been a hit in its native country, which means alot for 3rd party support. The PS3 may become the new frontier for amazing feats of gaming realism, but the accomplishments may also be the least compelling to all but die-hard gamers who can appreciate fine details. "New Class of Gaming Physics" is marketing spin. I have no reason to believe that raw computing power is going to create games that are a serious jump above what we'll see in the future from the 360 and the Wii.

There are many factors to be taken into consideration. So it will be interesting to see how the PS3 is welcomed by the public when it has been introduced in the remaining markets.
