Audi won't build the TT Shooting Brake.

Ulrich Hackenberg , Audi’s product chief has said in an interview to Netherland’s AutoVisie magazine that the Shooting Brake concept (shown at the 2005 Tokyo Auto Show) will not enter production.

You are right. This is just another case when the accountants won over the engineers.

Re: Audi won't build the TT Shooting Brake.

I was not a fan of this concept, but as a car fan i would like to see it in the market!
Was this supposed to be like the A3?

Re: Audi won't build the TT Shooting Brake.

While I did like this design somewhat, I never really was a fan of it. I don't think this is a bad decision by them because I really don't see a place for this car in the AUDI line up anyways.

Yannis...I think this was/is larger than the A3.

Re: Audi won't build the TT Shooting Brake.

Giannis , TT Shooting brake was supposed to be a third variant of the new TT , just like the coupe and Roadster.

Re: Audi won't build the TT Shooting Brake.

I think this is one of those segments that would have been well recieved by us car fans and purchased by absolutely nobody. It woud be cool - but just like an 7er touring, or an R-Klasse cabrio, it's not a configuration that makes a terribly good business case for itself.

On top of all that, a quasi-kombi platform would run the risk of taking the sex out of the TT's image. So you might sell 500 per annum and in the process cast a shadow on the entire line. Usually I bemoan Audi's product development, but this one I have to give a thumbs up.

Very well said Osna. The Shooting Brake makes for great poster material and us petrolheads would undoubtedly wax lyrical about the cool image but at the end of the day, the Shooting Brake would overlap uncomfortably with the hot hatch that Audi needs to succeed more: the S3.
