To answer your questions, it's the AT&T Long Lines Building (American Telephone & Telegraph Long Lines Building) in Soho. (Year/Architect : 1974/John Carl Warnecke).

To me it looks like a jail cell holding all the prisoners.

There's no windows in this tower and it holds all the electronic equipment for the phone company, and was designed to resist nuclear fallout and was to be provided with enough energy and food strorage to keep it self-sufficient for two weeks' operation. The heat is provided by the telephone equipment itself, kind of unique.

Wow sounds like something out of a movie! Thanks!

Re: The Collection: New York City *56k warning*

Wow James. Very impressive pictures!!! New York City is a gorgeous city during the holidays, especially Christmas.
I'm glad you had a great time in my hometown. I just wish I were here in NYC when you came over. It would've been nice to meet up and show you around my neighborhood.

I see you came through the Lincoln Tunnel, I give birth (it’s a joke LOL) going through it every time I get out of New York. I’m surprised they didn’t in trouble for taking pictures in the tunnel. They would’ve locked my a** up for weeks (I’m an Arab after all).

I’m glad you took the subway, it’s a New York experience. It’s the only way to get around in Manhattan. A lot of people don’t know how to navigate the Subway system the first time they use it, but then it becomes easy after a while. Did you get lost or worst yet, robed ( )?

Did you get to see Maybach’s and Phantoms in Midtown Manhattan? Did you visit the Mercedes show room on Park Avenue? It's across the street from the Ferrari/Maserati showroom.

I see you were in Lower Manhattan. You would have LOVED the view from top of the WTC towers. Did you also visit China Town and Little Italy?
Did you get to go to other boroughs? Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, or the Bronx? There are many other sites to see out there. You should’ve taken a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge, very nice view of Manhattan from there, to Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo.

Overall, I think you seen most tourist destinations, but it would have been nice to see the ordinary neighborhoods. Maybe next time I’ll show you around

Oh as for those NYC Taxies, it seems as though they're slowly replacing them big V8 Crown Vic’s with Hybrids. Mostly Toyotas Camrys/Prius/Highlanders/Lexus RX, but there are a few Fords and other manufacturers.

PS
My guess is that you took this picture from the south side of the Empire State Building. If the picture was a little higher up, you could see my neighborhood ….

Thank you Yaz!

As I pointed out before, I was quite disappointed I didn't see any snow while I was there. What's more frustrating is that when I finally left, it snowed the week after. But yes, Christmas is great in NY, the feeling's simply magical and I loved it.

You know, I do remember sending you a PM asking about recommendations for NY's best places to visit... I guess you were at the Middle East at that time.

Haha yes the feeling of Lincoln tunnel is really a unique one... The place from which you enter it, and the place you reach leaving it, is worlds apart. It's like a tunnel into an entirely different place.

The Subway's great, comparable to what we have in Singapore. We did have some minor problems finding out way but nothing too drastic, we get used to it after a while because we always cross the same stations to get to places! Nope, didn't get robbed, NY is safer than I thought it would be.

Yes, in fact I did see the Mercedes showroom! They had a baby blue/white Maybach 62 and a Maybach 57S parked there, plus the ML63 and the normal line of cars. I actually did take some pictures and posted it on the Spotted Today thread...

Yes, I also went to see the Ferrari/Maserati showroom. I watched the premiere video of the GranTurismo, it was taken at the same showroom where I stood! Pity I can't jump time or something...

Yeah, I wonder what it must have felt like standing up at the WTC...

Chinatown, yes, we walked around there abit, and Little Italy too! But not in great detail though, we were mainly focusing our time at Times Square.

I did pay Brooklyn a visit, it's a very different place from Manhattan, I felt! Anyway we took a wrong stop that's why we got there. After a while we took a train back to Manhattan. We also took a ferry at night to Staten Island, but stayed at the station. Basically, we only visited Manhattan...

I wanted to take a walk across Brooklyn Bridge, but my sis and dad were too tired!

Yeah dude, I'm actually considering going to NYU or Columbia. So it's a real possibility.

Oh! But with the same colour schemes, right?

Yep, we haven't had a white Christmas in years, but it does snow as you mentioned, just not during Christmas.

Really?? I never got it. In fact, I was away for so long, I think it might have been deleted or something. You should've asked Alex as well, I'm sure he knows some decent places around here.

Well, at least you were there. Indeed it's different and that's what's great about it

That's great. Let me know if you decide to become a New Yorker

Yep. I have many friends who drive taxies and they've mentioned how much money they save everytime they get their hands on a Hybrid. I've even gotten to start one of them and it's a weird feeling at first when you're sitting behind the wheel and there's no engine noise. I had to put it in Drive just to make sure it was actually running .

Here's a couple of pictures of a Ford Escape Hybrid and a Toyota Prius as an NYC Taxi:

Actually even the City of New York is switching to Hybrids. I see many Sanitation/Transportation/Building/ Departments and other City Agencies driving around in Toyota Prius.

Thanks. You really get used to living here and forget how great this city is, until you take a walk or drive around town and then it hits you... I live in the greatest city on Earth

Re: The Collection: New York City *56k warning*

Thanks for the info Yaz.

Yup, I PMed you a pretty long time ago... I also asked Alx, but he was busy as well.

Don't mind me asking, but how long have you lived in NYC? I don't know if I can adjust to life there... Especially since I've lived in my country for all my life.
