I'm confused. While I've heard of SAD before, I've yet to hear how snow helps.

But, the highlight of my trip was driving from Athens (my relatives live in Ηλιούπολη) to Αγρίνιο (where my cousin, that got married, lives). Then, we drove to Λευκάδα. I drove back to Athens by myself (my sister & cousin stayed on the coast, as my sister was able to stay in Greece longer...she was there for 4 weeks). I wouldn't trade that drive for anything.
You must had a really great time!
And since you can write in greek from your computer, i assume that you speak greek, right?
Anyway, if i were you i would feel the same! You visited some great places, including Myconos, which is the best and Leukada. Very nice island.

Athens is a nice enough city but i couldn't live there. I can't stand a city with more than 250.000 pop. It becomes overcrowded, and Athens is very polluted, too, not to mention the traffic.

Now Agrinio, i'm surpriced you mentioned it. I am from a villege near it, actually it's closer to Messologhi, but anyway. Είμαστε πατριώτες

Last, i assume you also noticed the horrible roads, right?

Sadly, I don't speak Greek (while my father is Greek, my mother is Scottish, so, Greek wasn't spoken around the house much, when I was a kid). I can read Greek, though (so, I didn't have much trouble with Greek signs on the drive)...other than place names, I just don't know what I'm reading, if that makes any sense. I used the Greek spelling for the cities listed because I know them better than the Anglicized versions.

Athens is crowded...no doubt about it. I grew up around Toronto (about 3 million people), but it's spread out...not quite the same. Although, it was a lot of fun to drive around Athens. My relatives were worried I might not be able to handle the aggressive Greek driving style...I put that worry to rest quickly.

It's funny you should mention the roads, though...I was impressed by them, actually. The new highway system around Athens is pretty impressive (it's expensive, though...we don't have many toll roads around here). As I got further away from Athens, the roads weren't that bad.

And, I love that the paved shoulder is used as an extra lane. That will never happen, here in North America...not legally, anyway.

The main reason for SAD is the lack of light. Snow, being white, reflects any light there is, lessening the effect of the darkness. Many people say they feel better when there is snow on the ground, and there are scientific studies that prove there's a connection.

Still no snow here...

I had a feeling you'd say something like that...but, don't you need light in the first place to reflect anything. Unless, of course, the snow in your area in phosphorescent?

I've never been to Florida you lucky guy. Here in Singapore it's summer all year so Christmas is kinda dead here. Anyway, I'm at NY now and daimn, I love the weather. Habitual Speeder's right, the weather's real fine (not too cold) and you can get by with relatively sparse clothing. I'm still hoping for one day to snow though...
