Re: World's Richest People

The Sultan of Brunei would still on the list, but Forbes no longer includes monarchs and other rulers. Mr. Kamprad, the Ikea boss, was said to be the world's richest if you include the value of the company's property. They own the land beneath some or most of their stores and with property in Europe and t the falling US dollar, that increased his wealth. I don't think it would make him the world's richest though.

I think it's interesting looking at the list. I've read it every years since 1996. There are some very rich men from poor countries. Russia is a poor country, but has the second most billionaires. The third richest on the list is a Mexican businessman whose wealth tripled in the past two years. Mexico is not exactly a rich nation either and these billionaires from emerging markets are not too popular at home and they're always heavily guarded.

I really never put too much stock in the list. So many of the fortunes are privately-held and it is almost impossible to determine a person's net worth without looking at company balance sheets. There are a few billionaires that I think have been undervalued.
