Re: Capital Punishment: Your Views?

I have very mixed feelings about the death penalty.

One the one hand, it is a legal murder, which is hard to justify...

On the second... I agree that some persons would merit the capital punishment: serial killer, serial rapers...

BUT

I am against the death penalty.

And that, because of the risk of an error.

In Texas you have more than 10% errors, meaning 10% of the persons killed that were innocent...This risk can't be taken for me.
I prefer a guilty free than an innocent condemned to death.

Re: Capital Punishment: Your Views?

In my opion the death penalty should not exist. There are simply no objective justifications for it, only subjective.

I absolutely agree. I can't see why a state has a right to kill people when its citizens don't (no matter what the situation). Studies have proven the death penalty is a no better deterrent than other sentences... murder rates are no lower (for example) in US states which carry the death penalty than in those that don't. Crime will always exist, no matter what the punishment. I think it's abominable that a state believes it has the right to take a man's life... essentially they are playing God.

To kill a murderer for murdering has severe logical flaws... doesn't it?

Re: Capital Punishment: Your Views?

I don't know, I think it should be much more limited, but I do think that there are some very heinous crimes that definitely deserve death.

I agree with you.

However, one had to be considered: imagine someone condemned to life-imprisonment in a State where no death penalty exists. This man has nothing more to risk, nothing at all. He can attack or try to attack the personal, kill or try to, escape or attempt to escape every ten minutes, he does not risk anything: he can't be executed, and can't be condemned more...

That said, it is right that killing someone, even in the name of the State, is highly criticizable...

Something more: in the Bible is said "you won't kill". The Church even refuses contraception, because only God can decide of the life or death of someone.

And this is precisely the US, where God is highly rewarded and quoted by the Politicians, who has a death penalty.
C'mon, a judge or juy is not God, so why the Hell would he have the right to decide the death of someone right to decide to kill a human being!!?

These judges or jurys, philosophically speaking, condemn themselves to Hell when they condem someone to death...
