Re: I just bought a Breitling Tourbillon.

Hey Lu, congratulations! I didn't know that you finally settled on a watch. I'm really glad you went for a Certina. They're a well respected brand of the Swatch group, have a strong pedigree and are unique choice for those seeking an entry-level quality wristwatch (glad you passed on the Tissot).

The "Monaco-ish" chronograph you chose is classy and I imagine looks really nice on your wrist.

A word of warning Lu - Once you enter the realm of multiple watch ownership, there's no turning back. It's a sickness, an obsession, a bona fide road to damnation that'll eventually ends with you plunking down $60,000 for a rose gold Lange & Sohne minute repeater.

Re: I just bought a Breitling Tourbillon.

luw I see you have the UK version of GQ!!! Damn! I wish I could get that Bond one. I am a huge Bond fan.

I myself am a watch lover. I personally prefer Omega over Rolex. My family is obssesed with Rolex and think it is the best thing since sliced bread. I like Omega because there is a strong name but nothing else. Sorry, but Rolex at times reminds me of MB. They had quality issues and there were still strong believers, as there still are today, that MB was the best and that Audi, BMW, and others were just copy cats. I accept and see history individually and not as a whole. Just because someone created something doensn't mean they are entitled to the principles set forth in it. Others can come along and do just as good or even better job.

At this point in time I have my eye on a couple of Omega's primarily the Seasmaster 300m 2220.80 which is the new movement that Omega is putting on the seamaster--co-axial. The c0-axial is not as accurate as the 1120 movement, and by no means is the 1120 movement worse, it has stood the test of time, no pun intended. Nevertheless, it is where Omega is headed and is a work of art to say the least.

Re: I just bought a Breitling Tourbillon.

Gq magazine is a perfect magazine for killing time and I actually bought it in london, it is very thick though and contains lots of interesting articles which aren't just about fashion.
Thanks. Beleive it or not but buying my watch was a nightmare but a pleasent one. It took me 4-6 weeks to decide which watch I want to accompany me in m life for the next year.
Certina or Tissot was the only way for me to go since they are one of the few manufacturer which produces watches of respectable quality and build in the 250-500 dollar price range. The other alternative was to buy I used watch but I didn't feel like buying a used one since this is going to be my primary watch.
I went to watch stores and felt on different watches and Certina DS(double security) series gave me the quality feeling I was after. The version with a round face structure is the one I really wanted but after having the slighty bigger Monaco shaped one on my wrist I feel in love with it. Most of my peers aren't too fond of watches with a brown leather strap but incombination with a silver watch it would look tasteful and expensive a Royal Oak.

I know that collecting watches can become an obsessive hobby, just ask Roberto. On the net I have seen several people posting pictures of their watch collections and some of which are worth more than the cars some of us might own.

Tell me some about your favorite watches. If santa was kind enough to grant you three watches, which ones would you choose?

I'm should be ashamed to admit that I've spend countless hours debating what piece I want to add to my collection... then after even more hours, I question weather or not I should expand my collection at all.

If I do get another watch this year, I want it to be something something distinctive. But on the other hand, lots of the watches I'm eyeing right now are also really popular and common, so maybe I'm better off getting a "cheap" vintage fix for my watch jones.

Anyways, without thinking too hard about this. The 3 new watches that are on my immediate hit-list are:

TAG Heuer Monaco SS (Preferably the "classics reissue")

Fortis B42 MarineMaster
A great quality diver with an excellent dial design and a resonable street price.

Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 42mm
Soon to be common as bread, since bing featured in Casino Royale. Not mad about the Bezel design, but the face and broad-arrow hands are great, and the co-axial movement is a nice engineering story whose merits seem to be backed up by consumer experience.

And if Santa was being extra nice and threw in a fourth watch, I'd love to have a Nomos Tangente. Nomos are a splendid little watch company based out of Glashutte Germany who develop their movements in-house and sell their wares for totally resonable prices. The Nomos look doesn't really match my day-to-day style very well, but it would make for a great formal watch.

Osna, are you sure it wasn't the 44mm that was in CR?

My pics would be the seamaster 2351, 2250, and the planet ocean.

I don't know about the size Daniel Craig was wearing. The Planet Ocean Seamaster comes in 42 and 45mm sizes. Even at 42mm, the PO is pretty massive for my wrist. I couldn't imagine ever wearing a 45mm watch with a straight face.

I'd really have to try on the thing to see if I'd want to get one. Thing is - the lugs on housing point outwards, and don't contour with your wrist like some other watches. So the largeness of the watch is exacerbated if your wrist is on the small side.

You are right. I meant 45mm. I just checked it.

Well, I would have to see which one he wears. Either way, I think the Planet Ocean is such a beautiful watch! Woah! Beautiful! I think the watch is nicer looking than the submariner from rolex. I guess I have grown tired of it.

I would have to try on the 45mm to see if it is that bad.

Just out of curiousity, are you in the market for an Omega Planet Ocean?

I am, but I'd really want to try one on before I make up my mind. There's also some details I haven't quite decided which bezel and dial style I like the most.

Choosing a watch is extremely difficult.

At this moment I would love to have a Planet Ocean 45mm, but I couldn't justify paying that amount of money--yet. Therefore, I have my eyes set on the seamaster 300m chronometer that Bond uses.

True, they're pricey. For that reason I'll probably end up lurking over ebay instead of buying one new from a dealer. I know there's a certain satisfaction that comes from buying a watch brand-new, but the asking price for the Planet Ocean is just a little bit too much over the "ouch point" for me.
