| Re: Watches I love watches...but only with a mechanical movement. I hate Quartz movements. My Dad has a Seiko Kinetic (quartz, but with an automatic-like moving bit to charges the battery via an alternator, so no battery to change), pretty interesting. I have 4 watches, all vintage gold Swiss watches. Th'yre small and discreet, but very elegant. -A 1950's Omega, -A 1950's Longines (14K, not 18 like the others) -A 1940's Baume&Mercier -A 1930's Jaeger-Lecoultre, one of the first with central second-needle. I also have an old gold Omega clock, I don't how to say in english, in French it's a "montre de gousset" ou "oignon". The clock with a chain to put in the shirt's pocket, before actual watches... All dates are very approximative. They all are revised and work perfectly, however the B&M begins to be a bit late and the Jaeger has little troubles with the second-needle, that don't affect its precision. What I like in them is that they are discreet, elegant, very thin and light to wear. And I paid them not even a tenth of what they would cost new. I will try to post pics of them later. |

| Re: Watches Watches and cars really are the best match IMO. For some reason they go very well together. My brothers and I are avid watch collectors. Between the 3 of us we have about 12 different watches from Omega to Hublot (big bang in the rose gold). My first really expensive watch was the Rolex Daytona Meteorite. I love that watch and is my favourite even though we have a couple of watches more expensive. I usually wear a watch for about 4 months (length of a semester) and then change to something else (from the existing collection not buy a new one!!!). Right now I'm wearing a Louis Vuitton LV277. | Re: Watches I don't know about you guys but I have seen a lot of people in the US and people in Switzerland (usually from the US) who come to buy watches and pretty much accept the first price they are offered. Other than boutiques for LV or Cartier etc., all sellers offer ATLEAST a 20% discount if you bargain without the VAT. They will be stuck up for limited edition releases but even then a 10% discount is bare minumum. The Chopard my mom bought was one of 10 but yet we got about a 30% discount on it in Zurich. Anyone know if people usually bargain because I really only have seen people coming in from India, China etc. who bargain till theres no tomorrow. |

I absolutely agree with you. There is no point, at least for me, to have a quartz. There is no passion or ingenuity as there is with an automatic movement. I love the co-axial movement that I have in my Omega Planet Ocean. Truly love the risk that Omega took with taking out such a movement that should not be serviced for about 10 years. I think automatic movement are admirable and that is what I love about watches. | |
