207 MPH in an SLR

A friend has been invited by MB to go to California to ride in a SLR on a track at "speeds up to 207 mph". He has invited me to be his guest.

This sounds different from the AMG Challenge they have every year around the country- I received an invite for that a few weeks ago. Has anyone heard anything about this SLR event?

Re: 207 MPH in an SLR

Sorry, I don't remember having seen anything about it. I also received an invite to a regular AMG event a few weeks ago. I would guess they would profile the people they invite to this kind of events, possibly from their own customer base. I don't know what kind of data they have available and of whom. I am confident I would not qualify for an event like that.
Congratulations on being invited as a guest by your friend though. Hope you get to drive as well. Looking forward to hearing your impressions.

Re: 207 MPH in an SLR

Just a sidenote: My employer puts on the AMG Challenge - scratch that - used to. Unfortunately, things over at DC have shaken things up for all their marketing partners.

I'm curious drronh. Where in California are we talking about? This sounds similar to something we may be involved in.

Re: 207 MPH in an SLR

I'm not sure where in CA. My friend came over for Easter dinner today but we did not talk about it much. He said its not the AMG challenge. That email comes every year. I told him I did not want to go because I don't want to go to CA and honestly the SLR does not do much for me. My friend had a 2005 SL65 (and a SL55 prior) that he was able to get through a connection to the MB board of directors. Now if it was a ride in a CLK GTR with Klaus Ludwig or Bernd Scneider driving that would be something different...

Re: 207 MPH in an SLR

At first I thought you did 207 MPH in an SLR
I remmember SLRMan from the old GCF saying he did over 180 MPH or so.

I'd definitely pay $2000 to drive an SLR around the track if it were held around here.
