I think the upcoming changes/facelift will help earn some respect for the SLR. If they do a roadster and a lightweight model with more power I think they'll be halfway there. The SLR should have had a DSG style gearbox and a true manual. The regular AMG 5-speed automatic (as wonderful as it is) is still just an automatic. They could even drop in that specially tuned version of the new 6.3L V8 that made the rounds in that orange CLK-DTM. It made 580hp and I'm sure with direct-injection they could get another 20-30hp out of it and put it in the rumored lightweight version of the SLR. Lastly I'd like to see some of the rather coarse styling details refined. Some different wheels options, a less pointy nose and a few less holes/scoops and other little add on details. Needs some refinement. M |

I've seen it in real life several times, the sound of the car is simply amazing, I've never heard something like that. I'm amazed by performances also - for example - it has 400 kg more than Carrera GT and it accelerates almost the same (0-100). The interior is awesome, not really like in Zonda but I can say I love it and I'd be extremly happy when I'd drive it every day. The exterior design: this is where I don't know what to think. I hate the back spoiler but I can pass over it. IMO, the exhaust is in the cool place.. Every time I look at the front of the car I say: I like it...I don't like it...I like it...I don't like it. But at the end, I would say it's a great car, with awesome sound and interior, not so beautiful design (but still special and nice)...And I would take Porsche Carrera GT over it! |

I can't find an option I like here either. I think the SLR is pretty nice for a Mercedes-Benz, but I don't love it or hate it. | |

![]() | Re: Give your opinion about the SLR ...... I have mixed feelings about the McLaren SLR. I love the way it looks. I love the sound produced by the engine. I love the practicality of it. I love the power. BUT... I Hate the fact it only produces 626 Bhp. The old McLaren F1 produced 635 Bhp from a normally aspirated 6.7 V12. And it's not as fast or faster than the EXCELLENT old F1 supercar. I hate the £350.000price. This car simply doesn't worth all that money. It feels and looks like a SL55 AMG without the limiter and with a solid roof. Even the interior comes straight from the SL. The McLaren SLR doesn't feel special fro the money. I would pay £150.000 max for the SLR. I hate the weight of it. 4000 Ibs...that's too heavy for a supercar. I hate the fact that Paris Hilton got one. She is nothing more than American white trash with loads of money. I hate the lack of passion in it. Sure, the SLR is a nice car. But it lacks that extra something, that makes a fine car into a great one, which this isn't it. The SLR doesn't feel passionate enough. It's just too clinical for a supercar. The hypothesis behind this car seems to be overbalanced, too much form, too much practicality and not enough fun or x-factor. _____________________________________ So there you have it... I'm not saying the McLaren SLR is a bad car. No I'm not. After all, that would be just plain ridiculous. I don't hate the SLR by any means. Even though I sounded rather negative about it. I just don't love the SLR. It's not hardcore and special enough for a supercar. It doesn't have that X-factor as a Ferrari Enzo, Lamborghini Murciélago, Pagani Zonda or a Porsche Carrera GT does. Mercedes-Benz should have given a more racing approach to the SLR. Like they did with the exuberant CLK GTR. ![]() Now that's what I call a true Mercedes supercar! ![]() Last edited by Andaluz; 03-28-2006 at 07:56 PM. |
