This really makes no sense. I know Benz just came out with a Face-lift SL.

Now this supposed face-lift has comepletely different headlights. I think it's BS, this is a redesigned model. No, way Benz would do two face-lift in this short time. That would be dumb.

Good point. It is very possibly that it is a BS, especially if you consider that it has a sporty front bumper.

SL sales are pretty stale right now. Buyers will not go for 10+ year between body changes. Manufacturers have to keep the product fresh. The SL interior is dated and lacks the features of even the new C. The pervious face lift was nothing, so I'm not surprised.

Uh..the previous facelift was nothing? That is sorta uh..wrong. The car gained more power, better handling and an even more luxurious interior. This time around it will get some of if not most of the techno goodies from the CL/S.

The C, E and next CLK are all of higher priority to MB I guess. The SL I would think is harder to do compared to the rest of the range outside of the CL/S.

All the cars got the new V8 engine. That is not a facelift.
They changed the material of a handful of trim items and the front bumper facia. No changes in design. The average consumer wouldn't even notice the difference.

Fact is the previous face lift was not enough to impact consumer's buying decisions or interest in the car.

It's been 5 years since launch and sales are declining rapidly.

Just as MB is warming over the old Sportscoupe for launch as a new model, I think this probably is actually a heavily facelifted SL. Like with the Sportscoupe, it was probably a decision made to save a pile of cash and allow the engineers to concentrate on other product launches. The volumes of the SL probably ensured it wasn't a priority next to somthing like the new E, which has to be perfect from the get go.

I'm still dredding the idea of drastic change of sheetmetal while keeping the same old chassis intact, Mercedes is not Honda, Toyota, or Subaru now. There has to be some other way to bring more people to buy the car...
