Global Warming!

Anyone seen former Vice President Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" yet? What are your thoughts on it? Is it worth watching? The only thing holding me back from seeing it is Al Gore himself. I find his speeches (and him) boring, but this one sounds interesting.

I've seen the trailer and I can't help but think, are we, car enthusiasts, partially responsible for causing global warming? What are your thoughts guys?

Re: Global Warming!

Al Gore is just jumping on a bandwagon here ... there are many scientists who are now convinced that global warming is a completely natural phenomenon -- unfortunately, the issue has now become so politicized, and the public have been so brainwashed into believing we have a man-made crisis on our hands, that few politicians are prepared to listen to reason. However, the cracks are starting to show in the "green" obsession with the issue - the Kyoto Protocol has already started to self-destruct.

Re: Global Warming!

global warming isnt being caused by german cars with extremely low emissions, but by cars that are old and diesel trucks along with coal burning and ships importing stuff (such as Sh#t from china)...If at all...I really know nothing about it, I just know that new cars basically omit CO2 which is a natural gas that comes humans and animals as well...its also because of people continueing to cut down the rain forset...

Re: Global Warming!

This debate over CO2 is very unconvincing. The more I read over the global warming issue, the more I don't think fuel emissions are playing such a big part in it.

Re: Global Warming!

I've planted enough trees to absorb all the CO2 emissions created by me during my lifespan, which means I can breath easily. I hope...

Seriously speaking, Earth's climate has always been in constant change. Whether human activities affect it and by how much can be debated till the end of the world but the truth is we'll never know for sure. I think we should do everything we reasonably can to control emissions, without going to extremes with the finger-pointing etc.

Re: Global Warming!

I do not think that Global Warming is happening by itself without our influence. I would say that our global climate at one time occured naturally-- but not anymore.

For example, if the US emits more greenhouse gases per person than any other country in the world. Greenhouse gases come in many different forms. For example, the natural ones that occur in our atmosphere--which seems to be what Roberto and others were referring to-- are those like water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone. However, if these are occuring naturally without our input, I would say that is ok, however, this is not the case. We are emitting more carbon dioxide because of our cars; more methane becuase of production of coal, and the list goes on. In addition to this "Fossil fuels burned to run cars and trucks, heat homes and businesses, and power factories are responsible for about 98% of U.S. carbon dioxide emissions, 24% of methane emissions, and 18% of nitrous oxide emissions"--EPA. Not only are we emitting that much we are also cutting down so many trees through deforestation and not allowing the excess CO2 get absorbed by these trees.

So if some of you are going to sit back and say that our earths global warming is occuring "naturally" then I beg to differ. The EPA has suggested that:

"Human activities have altered the chemical composition of the atmosphere through the buildup of greenhouse gases – primarily carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide."--EPA

Before someone goes ahead and trys to debunk what I have said, try debuking the Environmental Protection Agency. I do know that there are some uncertainties, but I do think that if we have been emitting more gases that have had to be emitted then we must be doing something to alter the atmosphere.

Re: Global Warming!

There is no doubt humanity has played a role BMWFREAK, but as I said in my first post, this whole global warming issue has become very political and much research [that questions fuel emissions as the major cause] has been ignored.
