Nice thread Robert
Which one is your favorite? I know it's not the W221 Mine has to be the W140, I simply love it.

BTW, where's the interior shot of the W140's interior?

Re: The development of the Mercedes S class over the years.

Excellent pictures Roberto!

My all time favorite S-Class would have to be the W126!
The W126 S-Class revolutionized the way modern day S-Class cars are designed. This S started it all. From it`s body colored bumpers to the air-bag
and other key innovative elements. This is the great great, great father of the modern day S.

Woah, thanks so much Rob, we're truly indebted.

My dad owned the W126, W140 and W220. Fantastic cars, all of them.

Thanks Yaz ...I have included that missing picture

Like GTA7.5, my favourite is also the W126. It is the S class I was most familiar with while growing up in the 1980's ...and it still looks great after all these years ...even if it is looking quite old now ....funny how things change so much, once I thought the W126 was timeless but it is now a classic Benz.

Yaz I do also like the W140, it is a very important looking car -- large and imposing.

James, I know you weren't really impressed with the W221, but will your dad continue the tradition and get a W221?

We grew up during the same era and the W126 was a Benz staple during those years. It and the W124 were just so much a part of that time it can't be forgotten. I think I've come to like the W140 more and more in the last 5-6 years. I think either the W126 or the W220 would be my favorites, the W221 is still too new. The W140 is just so much car.

Re: The development of the Mercedes S class over the years.

I have recently become quite fond of the W111/W112 from 1959-1965 known as the Heckflosse (Fintail) models -- which were obviously taking [rather late] inspiration from American cars of the 1950's.

Below is a 220SE (W111). The 300SE/300SEL (W112 - I'm not sure why it has it's own W number) looked much the same but had a few more chrome details to distinguish it as the top model.

Interestingly, the W100 (introduced in 1963) apparently took sales from the 300SEL and so that model (300SEL) only lasted a few years .....I don't think the current LWB S600 is at any risk of being dropped because of the Maybach 57 though
