As for the W221 what bothers me most, is the interior, witch no matter how MB-ised it's still the BMW E65 interior. I don't know if this is flatery or simply proves MBs incapacity to lead. Ofcourse underneath this (W221) the best, perhaps by far, in its class, no doubt about it, to bad about its design tough.

These judges didn`t complain. http://www.germancarzone.com/showthr...s+design+awardAutomotive design is all a matter of personal taste. Thats why I dont bother with responding to subjective opinions because everyone has his right to choose. Breaking down a design that coheres to a certain design language is a different subject but even that can be miss-interpreted if not understood.

![]() ![]() | Re: Another nail in Maybach's coffin. my proboblem with the s class is that i dont like the dashboard. I just have never been in or seen a mercedes (new one) that has made me think wow that looks good. I love audi and bmw interiors though so i wouldnt buy the s class. o and i think the a8 looks better on the outside also. But the maybach and s class thing i think the s class is a better choice. THe maybach as someone said is just paked full of stuff on the inside and is probably the most comfertable car it just dosent have any pasion or style to it. |

Good point and I agree. German cars are not ment to be passionate designs in the first place, that should be understood. When a German car company takes hold of a design thay always figure, what can I do with this design not how can I make it feel. The priority of a German car is to function first. This is the logic behind the designs.

I always wondered what the world would make of the Maybach once its military-grade barrage of advanced features became co-opted into the next generation of supersedans. Now we see - Not only does the S cop the Maybach in style, in many areas it superceeds it in raw technology and "it'ness." Reclining rear captain's seats? Whatever. Even the LS460 can get those now. The problem goes way back to day one, when the Maybach was concieved not as a unique vechicle, but as the penultimate extension of the Mercedes brand. As for the Lexus LS 460, I'm neither impressed nor amused. It's definitely a good step for Lexus, and the LS 460h has a very impressive headlight assembly - but the interior is Japanese business as usual and even sports those terrible green digital clocks that look as though they were ripped from an '80s VCR. A solid effort, but by no means a game changer. In fact the interior comes off looking almost old school in contrast to the S-Klasse's cabin, and souless next to the 7er. What absolutely love about the LS is the onboard 4GB hard drive that'll be used to play back music. Plus, there's a recepticle for removible media (SmartMedia I think) for plug n' go action. This is a concept that's manifest destiny for luxury cars. I hope to see this become standard fare in all GCs very soon. Just to think - Not so long ago BMWs were coming with cassette decks as standard equipment. Suddenly it seems like car makers are getting in tune with their customer's listening habits.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Another nail in Maybach's coffin. Osnabrueck, 4gb isn't going to get you far, I would have expected something more like 100gb. I think the new technology will be support for playing videos off a hard drive in the car, now that would be good! I agree with you completely Roberto, the Maybach needs an update, the only reason why it is thought of as such an amazing car if because of its technology, which is getting a bit old now. The RR Phantom is still up to date because it has luxury in the old way, not too much technology! |
