Thumbs up Re: Car&Driver - S 600 vs. RR Phantom

The article is superb..Mighty S600 won by 40 points..thats a marvelous result..Be proud to the flagship three pointed star..S has proud once that its "the Best Car in the World"..

I appreciate Car and Driver to conduct such a comparison test..Also look a head for S65 AMG full test..

Re: Car&Driver - S 600 vs. RR Phantom

Just about as ridiculous as comparing a Patek Phillippe wristwatch to a Tag Heuer.

Nevertheless, it's fun to play stupid and compare a top-level cars with the nievette of a child. When it comes to the level of cars like the S600 or the 911 Turbo, everything else is just deminishing returns on a scale of magnitude (as if you didn't know that already).

By the way - I was reading about the new S-Klasse's distronic cruise control yesterday. Evidently it's pretty awesome. So much so that one can just sit in gridlock and do nothing more than turn the wheel. For people trapped in LA traffic, this is a godsend. I gotta try it out!

Re: Car&Driver - S 600 vs. RR Phantom

Wow...This shows how perfect car S-Class is! Though, I haven't thought they would compare it to Phantom. I'm wondering, should there be a test against Maybach??

Re: Car&Driver - S 600 vs. RR Phantom

Yes yes ...this article is just every Mercedes fanboy's wet dream...but the point seems to have been completely missed here....nobody has ever, or ever will, buy a Rolls-Royce for the same reasons one buys an S class - sure the Merc is the wiser choice for the "real world" - but the Phantom is created for an entirely different purpose. Many, if not most, owners of a Rolls-Royce Phantom will undoubtedly own an S class (or something similar) for regular daily use anyway - but ask them which car stirs their emotions, which car makes them feel special, which car imbues even a short journey with a sense of occasion?.................well it's obvious isn't it.

Don't get me wrong, I think the S class is fantastic - but the Phantom exists in an altogether different context ......no potential buyer of the Rolls-Royce will be canceling their order as a result of this article and rushing out to acquire an S class instead ....of that, we can be certain.

for sure roberto.. but as far as the best car goes the S is better.. like i said the RR only got the presige going for itself.. other than that there are many cars that do the things it does alot better

Well even that's not strictly true. The Phantom is still an excellent car Artist - look carefully at where it looses points against the Mercedes:

Exterior Styling - that is purely subjective ...and I for one would beg to differ with their decision.

Performance and handling etc. - well sure, but the Phantom weighs considerably more and has a much higher center of gravity.

features and amenities - sure, the Mercedes is jam-packed with gadgets - but the Phantom's designers deliberately kept things simple and austere - that was entirely intentional - to deduct points for this is to misunderstand the Phantom's culture and character.

Fun to drive - is this even relevant - if i want fun, I'll buy a Ferrari.

Price - ???? where's the relevance?
