| S550 4Matic! ![]() Edmunds has a great writeup on their First Drive of a S550 4Matic: What the hell?!? ![]() Good lord it isn't an SUV, but it appears just as capable. A W220 4Matic couldn't do this! ![]() Love this shot!! The guts: ![]() ![]() First Impressions: Forget luxury SUVs: This all-wheel-drive S-Class has all the capability you'll ever need. - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER M Last edited by admin; 03-10-2006 at 03:18 PM. | Re: S550 4Matic! Whoa impressive. So how far behind quattro are Benz's and BMW's all wheel drive offerings? Surely they must be narrowing the gap with every new generation? Oh and the car is looking superb in those photos. This S really is a chameleon, powerful yet svelt in some shots but cumbersome and obese in others. | Re: S550 4Matic! ![]() This pic is the most impressive one, assuming the car's not actually stuck there. The way the front of the car is sinking the soft snow would spell trouble for many cars. Lift off the gas and you're definitely stuck. The uphill part would not be much of a problem with any car fitted with proper winter tires unless you're doing a standing start. |

| Re: S550 4Matic! ![]() Great article! The journalists said: "Cresting this hill was as easy as flat footing the throttle and letting 4Matic do the rest!" With the improvement bits that enhance 4Matic this system only adds 159lbs. to the S550 with no body or footwell modifications. Thats incredible! I think MB should add this as an option on the S65. It would work quit well. |
