Re: Jeremy Clarkson reviews the Audi R8.

The R8 isn't "just" another Audi. It's "the" Audi! I really can't believe that JC actually loved this car. Audi has done an amazing job with the R8 and I just can't wait until the V10 version will be released!

Re: Jeremy Clarkson reviews the Audi R8.

Having lived my first 18 years in Europe, it sounds strange to me when Audi is seen as less than a very prestigious brand. MB, BMW, and Audi were the triumvirate of the luxury brands.

But will that amazing performance be enough to convince people to spend that much money on "just" an Audi. The type of cars the R8 is going against (like Porsche 911) have a much higher prestige factor. And the styling is still a bit controverisial, don't you think? Will it look as good 5 years from now like the 911 undoubtedly will?
i think the only thing audi has to worry about with r8 is not people won't spend that much on it, it's they can't make it fast enough as the article stated.
a friend of mine is buying one in japan, and he said all of first year's allocations are spoken for, the wait for him to get his car is at least a year. and according to a member at vwvortex who spoke to an audi rep at detroit autoshow, the car is sold out for the first 3 years, 300 for '07, and 800 each for '08 and '09.

but on the other hand, audi dealers must be jubilant now.

Re: Jeremy Clarkson reviews the Audi R8.

The Audi team deserves a standing ovation for accomplishing precisely the task they set out for: Build a low-volume halo car that will display the best Audi Quattro engineering has to offer and bring everything great about the brand to the fore. Things have gone just brillantly for this car and I couldn't be more surprised.

All thoughts of this car's "controversial" styling were erased once I saw it in person. It's an outstanding car to behold, and a definite best-of-breed in its price bracket.

Re: Jeremy Clarkson reviews the Audi R8.

I read in Autocar that the average R8 buyer in the UK is adding £10,000 worth of options! That's quite impressive, and I'm sure it's helping Audi making a profit on the car, seeing as options is where they make a lot of the money on a car!

That actually very common when buying a car at such a high price. Not only are options on such cars expensive but they also increase the resale value of the car. Just step inside a Mercedes dealer and take a look at the price tag of most S500s and you'll find out that they are equipped with options worth atlest 10 000 punds.
