Well they can limit production of the AMG version to keep it from sitting around on dealers lots like the R350/500 models do. The AMG model isn't the problem. It will likely sell pretty good, if not they'll just make more ML63s since they're made in the same plant here. At one point the previous ML55 was the best selling AMG product in the U.S, before the Supercharged 2003 E55 came along.

Re: R-Class sales?

IMO I think the name AMG isnt that special anymore since you can find AMG engine in almost every model they have. I really hope that BMW M dont go this way with like say X3,X5 and 7-serie. IMO.

Well they have pimped the AMG brand pretty hard in the last few years, but I wouldn't say it isn't special anymore. It isn't as if the cars are just decals and no performance. They've made some really interesting cars in the last few years and big hp always gets attention. I'd say they're less exclusive than Motorsport cars for sure, but AMG is still special IMO.

the cars are still impressive but the name alone has lost its touch IMO

Re: R-Class sales?

I'm not saying they should do like M (only few cars in M form), in fact i feel sorry 'cause BMW won't make an M version of X5. For X3 couldn't care less and M7 is only a dream that will never come true. AMG models must be special and exclusive. We know so far that AMG can put their engine in any MB, but what's too much is really too much! What's next a MB AMG bycicle? C'mon...

Well what would have them do? I can't see a C/E/S/CL/SL/CLS/CLK/SLK range without an AMG product. Get rid of the M/R/G AMG models?

Nope, get rid only of R and probably G, 'cause it's the only product together with A class that never got my attention. Yes, R and G, for other models - yes.

Re: R-Class sales?

Mercedes simply offers these AMG models because there is a market out their for them. They wouldn't bother if people weren't going to buy these things. And why not, the profit margins on these things would be HUGE.

Re: R-Class sales?

This is true, but I also see their point about having an AMG version for every model. An AMG M-Class is enough IMO on the non-car side. This R63 and the inevitable GL63 could be dropped I think and no one would really miss them. The original G, the G55 of course stays!
