Porsche Cayenne Compact, X3 rival.

Quote:
Porsche Cayenne Compact small SUV von Porsche Porsche obviously plans a competitor to the BMW X3 and thinks about one approximately 20 cm shorter expenditure of the Cayenne. In the Design the "Cayenne Compact" is to differ however clearly from the larger brother. The technology could be taken by the Cayenne. However its aggregates and wheel suspensions are very expensive. It is conceivable that Porsche falls back with the Cayenne Compact to components of the Volkswagen company.

So the rumors from IAA were not just rumors.

Re: Porsche Cayenne Compact, X3 rival.

Porsche would never try to compete with the X3. I don't believe this.

Like Luw said this is hard to believe. Let's pray it's not true or else...

Re: Porsche Cayenne Compact, X3 rival.

i just hope that this is just a rumor and not a fact cause then that would just suck why build a smaller suv i doubt that there would be that much demand for it

Re: Porsche Cayenne Compact, X3 rival.

Look people, Audi is making one, so is MB, now after the succes of the Cayenne witch is now Porsche's bread and butter (not the 911), it makes perfect sense.
Money + distrubution of R&D cost make this car a must IMO if Porsche wan't to break the 100 000 unit mark in a world were tastes are changeing from traditonal to nische markets.
For BMW the X3 is no. 3 in sales, after the 3er and 5er, so for Porsche and Co.
it makes sense.
Man, I can only imagine a Cayman-ish compact SUV/SAV, but with suicide doors. That would be so cool.

Porsche Ute II: Stuttgart targets BMW X3 with smaller off-roader

Porsche may have finally confirmed the Panamera, the coupe-like four-door sedan to tackle the likes of the Mercedes-Benz CLS, but word on the Stuttgart grapevine suggests chairman Wendelin Wiedeking is also considering a smaller SUV akin to the BMW X3.

At least one full-size design model exists at the company’s Weissach development center and is being evaluated as an addition to the Porsche range. Designed to complement
the successful Cayenne, the small Porsche SUV is in a conceptual stage of development and awaiting a production green light, according to Zuffenhausen insiders. If approved, the five-seater won’t arrive in the market before 2010.

Sources suggest Wiedeking is looking at working with Volkswagen-owned Audi on the proposed small SUV. Porsche may use the 4wd platform being developed for the upcoming Audi Q5, similar to using the Volkswagen Touareg underpinning for the Cayenne. The Q5, due out in 2007, boasts a longitudinal engine layout, with space to house a V8—two crucial elements of the new Porsche’s design.

Thats what people said about the Cayenne... look at it now. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Porsche start making a mini cayenne.

One thing I never want to see in a Porsche 4 cylinder engine, if that happened it would be a sad day!
