VW is going to help Porsche in the production of Panamera which could be assembled in VW's plant in Wolfsburg!

Re: Porsche Panamera will be assembled by VW?

Hope that if true, it will be assembled in the Chech Republic, and not in
Germany( = highest cost + lower quality).

The information so far indicate Germany (Wolfsburg) but nothing has been decided yet.

Re: Porsche Panamera will be assembled by VW?

I read in many articles that now that Porsche is a major shareholder of VW they will have an extensive cooperation on many new models.

I could see that happening, in the press release I think they were being very coy about the intentions they have in buying stake in the VW brand, wouldn't make much sense just to share engineering between the Touraeg, Cayenne, and Q7. All of the VW empire along w/ Porsche could create some of the worlds fineest machines with the proper collaberation between companies. It would be great to drive a VW/Audi that steered like a Porshce, or something like a Porsche... now that would be a dream come true.

Re: Porsche Panamera will be assembled by VW?

For those who do not know, the chech plants are the most profitable in the world for VW, and car such as the new Skoda models are the most reliable from VW AG and the only ones (of Europe's automotive industry) competing with the japs in reliability.
The last time I've checked, the most of the VW plants in Germany are money loosers, workers are paid 20%+ over (german) rivals, and the work an average of 1440 h an year as opsed to 2000 h + for eastern european workers.
The Golf V rear axe is one of the many, many, idiotic wastes of money of VW AG.
So do not understand what's so great about this.
VW is a model of ineficiency, incompetence, incohernce, waste, idiotic old german mentality and coruption. I hope that this cancer will not spread to Porsche AG, and other VW divisions (eg. Audi).

Re: Porsche Panamera will be assembled by VW?

More details:

VW to handle bodyshell work, painting for Porsche's Panamera

Volkswagen AG will handle bodyshell work and painting for Porsche AG's new Panamera coupe, sources close to the company said, confirming earlier reports.

German media last month reported Porsche's management wants VW to handle large parts of the construction of the Panamera, which is scheduled to hit the market in 2009.

The car bodies are to be produced in VW's main plant in Wolfsburg and then assembled in Porsche's factory in Leipzig, which may help cut down development costs for the Panamera, which are budgeted at 1 bln eur, the sources said.

A spokesman for Porsche declined to comment on the matter and said Porsche will present final production plans in spring next year.

Porsche in September became VW's largest single shareholder after hiking its stake in the company to 18.53 pct, and sources said Porsche is now planning to advise VW on issues of currency hedging and productivity.

Sources also said Porsche expects to beat its full year unit sales target of 5,000 for its Cayman sports car, which it launched on the market in November.

The Cayman is currently assembled by Finnish automotive supplier Valmet, and sources said VW will 'surely' extend the contract with Valmet until 2011.
