![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Zo6 I think cars the R8, Ford GT and even the NSX, all have the trappings of a Supercar. Sure, they may be outperformed by some some "non-supercars", like the Z06, but still sport a platform that is "bespoke and visually decadent." And when I say decadent, I mean car porn, not decadent in the sense of exotic materials and custom-dyed leather. In my book, a real supercar can't be extracted from a doner car. So cars like the Z06, M5 and even the GT3 don't qualify, no matter how drop-dead awesome they may be. The R8 is certainly the lower-rung of the supercar club, but it has all the requisite supercar ingredients, and has enough performance to back up its exotic pretensions. To me, cars like the Zonda, Veyron and Enzo are true supercars. But their performance and pricetags are so outrageous I feel like they belong to another class altogether. So Z06 - awesome as it may be - is in league with cars like the Turbo, GT3 or M6. If the Corvette line was restricted exclusively to the Z06 trim I might reevaluate my answer... EDIT - Come think, maybe not. One more dimention to supercar status is a reasonably stiff barrier of entry, which the Z06 doesn't have in the US. Six figures is my personal starting point. The R8 really skims close to the edge here, but I think pulls it off with a package that's convincingly exotic. |

Well said 7.3AMG, I completely agree with you and the other good IQ dudes who use their intellect! j/k Anyway you nailed the catagory in the head here. You don`t have to be ultra expensive with drop-dead looks to be a supercar, thats exotic-car territory. Supercars are all about ultra-performance first, hence the name. Everything else is secondary. I voted yes! Heck, even the Ford GT is a supercar.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Zo6 First and foremost, the term "supercar" should be defined, and I don't think it is going to be defined the same today as it was back 15 years go. Ferrari ultimately has been the super car, followed by Lamborghini. However, I think in the late 20th century, and early 21st century we saw a change in what a supercar is. We have the M3, M5, RS4, E55, etc. that all have super car speeds and stuff. So, saying that a super car was the fastest no longer holds. Also, defining them as ultimately so luxurious that no one could compare them is also false. I think supercar is a very vague term. Quote:

This thread has been interesting to follow. As for the term 'supercar', it was originally coined by CAR magazine, and they had a nice article about what it takes to be a supercar a few issues ago... IIRC cars like the Z06 didn't make it.
