Is it me or are the best handling cars developed on the Nürburgring?

Granted Ferrari and a handfull of others(from what I know) don't test there, it seems as if every car developed on the Nurbrigring has superior handling than cars that are not. A no brainer I guess considering how rigorous the layout of the track is. One of the things I'd like to do in my lifetime, requires a high amount of concentration and driver skill. For me challenge always = fun.

Btw, it's Nürburgring.

And it's not just you. It's a known fact.

The Ring is one of the most demanding racing tracks - talking about the original Nordschleife, not the GP track.

BMW and Porsche are testing & dominating there (MB, Audi, GM, Nissan, Toyota, etc also testing there). Lately more and more car manufacturers coming to test there. All wanting to develop better handling cars.

There are some rumours BMW are playing with an idea to invest in a private testing track - designed to be even more demanding. Why? To come closer to Porsche, and to enlarge the gap between BMW and the followers. But this would be very expensive investement.

A very worthy investment to add. I woulnd't be suprised if they went through w/ it to take their driving dynamics to the next level and distance themselves from the encrochment on their speciality by competitors.

well the zonda F isnt devloped there and its to this date the best handling car in the world.. so its possible to develop a gr8 handling car elsewhere..
but then again the ring is a very good tool for development

There's no doubt the Nordschliefe is a great development track, but it certainly isn't the "be all and end all" of good handling cars.

THe boss of engineering at porsche said: "Our only judge is nordshleife, a new 911 turbo must at least be faster than 7 s than its predecessor"

Re: Is it me or are the best handling cars developed on the Nürburgring?

Tseting and developing cars on the nurb is good for when people then take the cars they brought to a race track, but in the real word its sometimes a disadvantage. For example over on a impreza board a guy was complaining saying that the M3 is too hard to drive fast on public roads because it was too bumpy to get power and grip down. He said he would be much faster in a evolution or impreza.

Another advantage also for audi having quattro you can blast off with them on public roads. A evo would still beat a RS4 round a bumpy B road though.

You'd be suprised just how bad the road surface on the Nurburgring is. I've seen several clips where people are driving around the circuit and the camera shakes like no man's business.

Oh yeah no doubt the 'Ring is the best place in the world to develp a car's handling/suspension from a performance point of view, but this must be combined with real-world ride comfort too.
