![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | What would be the best car for your grandpa? ![]() Top 10 Best Vehicles for Seniors in 2006 Those glints of gray make it official: We're getting older. Not just individually, but as a nation. According to information compiled by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the 65-and-older age group is the fastest growing segment of the population. There are currently over 19.9 million older licensed drivers, a figure that represents over 10 percent of all licensed drivers. And this number is expected to grow. It's estimated that more than 40 million seniors will be licensed drivers by 2020. Seniors have their own unique and varied set of needs when it comes to vehicles. The CDC reports that more than 60 percent of adults age 65 and over suffer from some "difficulty in physical functioning." Accordingly, choosing a vehicle that properly caters to each driver's specific challenges can make a big difference in overall comfort and, indeed, safety. So which vehicles should car-buying seniors place at the top of their list? We've evaluated vehicles on the basis of senior-friendly features, as well as overall quality and performance. Here are our 10 favorites: * Audi A8 * BMW 7 Series * Buick Lucerne * Chrysler 300 * Ford Five Hundred/Mercury Montego * Honda Civic * Pontiac Montana SV6 * Toyota Avalon * Toyota Prius * Toyota Sienna - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: What would be the best car for your grandpa? The A8 and 7-Series look out of place on that list. A lot of people over 65 aren't going to want to wrangle with the tech in the A8 or 7-Series. The older people get the less they like the Buck Rogers technology, in general because of course there are exceptions. Older people love Corollas not Civics. The new Civic is way to futuristic to appeal that demographic IMO. One look at the new Civic's dash layout would put off most older people I know. I surprised the S-Class didn't make this list, it usually has the older buyers in that segment. The A8 and 7-Series are generally driven by slightly younger folks with slightly less money. The Cadillac DTS should have been the luxury car of choice for seniors! Seniors are the majority of DTS buyers unlike the A8/7/S. M Last edited by Merc1; 03-02-2006 at 01:31 AM. |

![]() ![]() | Re: What would be the best car for your grandpa? i believe that most older people would not like the sclass a8 or 7er because of all the tech and i drive mmi and such so im suprised to see them on the list. The out going s class was often seen drivin by older people when i see them. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: What would be the best car for your grandpa? nice article IE. thanks. BTW, no car is good for my grandpa, since he is 95 years old. But if he was younger and i had the money i would buy him an Audi. I also think that an A6 or an A8 is the perfect car for dad... |

Also most Volvos were driven by pensioners a few years ago but that is starting to change lately.

Also there is a diference between what cars grampas actually buy and what some writer think. Ofcourse MB continues to be the older alternative. Nevertheless the S klasse has transformed itself from a passanger car to a driver's car. The new design, sporty atitude and BMW-copied interior is clearly aimed at an younger audience. The succes of the bangle 7er is partialy because of it's sales succes in SE Asia, where it becomed THE prestige car of its class. The W221 clearly was created to stop/reverse the decline of the W220 in that area and win back some market share from the 7er.
