![]() | Re: BIG NEWS: Move over Veyron, we may have a new title-holder soon!! I agree with some of those that have defended the car. It is true about a "go-fast" shape being somewhat clear. You can't knock the car for looking like previous supercars and sports cars because it's a shape that works. You see how much it took the Bugatti just to go as fast as it does. The problem according to some (including Gordon Murray) is that they decided exactly how the car would look (body design) and perform before it was even thought out technically. That's what you get with a visionary like Dr. Piech. You see how the Bugatti doesn't have all the various openings and slits all over its body like the Saleen? That's why it needs all those radiators which is part of the reason the car weighs so much (making up for the way it was concieved). I've heard this kind of thing before, though. Gordon Murray claimed that a McLaren F1 would only need 740 hp to go the same top speed as the Bugatti and that with the Bugatti's power, it could go 281 mph assuming the same drivetrain efficiency. This is based on aerodynamics and mathematical calculations, but these are just numbers. I believe it's certainly possible for the Saleen to dethrone the Veyron, but until I actually see it tested for the record, I'll reserve judgement. The Koenigsegg new car they are coming out with I hope will be another contender as well. |
