Thieves are resorting to car-jacking to beat improved vehicle security systems. DAVID MORLEY looks at a frightening new phenomenon.

Last month, a 49-year-old Sydney man was putting out his garbage, having just arrived home in his $500,000 Mercedes-Benz AMG SL65. Two men wearing balaclavas threatened him and assaulted him in a brief struggle before stealing the car. It was all over in seconds.
