14 great reasons to visit the N-ring

If you pick the right day to visit Germany's Nurburgring, you'll see more hot new metal than you would at any motor show, and one Autocar reader has just proved that to be true.

Long time Autocar fan Peter Brown visited the Nordschleife last week and snapped no fewer than 14 top-secret development mules doing flat-out laps. You can see his pictures in our gallery.

Among the cars he caught are the Aston Martin DBS, Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, Mercedes C63 AMG, Vauxhall Insignia, the new BMW X6 and the next 7-series, and Lexus's ISF.

Peter also caught a rare shot of Jaguar's supercharged XF, the XFR, with all four wheels off the ground, and a couple of less readily identifiable mules; one of them's likely to be a chassis mule for Audi's Q5, and the other a BMW M5 with interesting flared arches.

Autocar was at the Nordschleife last week too, and we know that, with the patience, the right viewing position and enough camera memory, you could have also walked away with pictures of the new Fiat 500, Porsche 911 GT2 and Panamera, the BMW M3, the next Honda NSX and the new Mercedes E-class.

Not a bad day's work for a car fan though; well done, Peter. Ever considered a career as a spy photographer

I'd love to go to the 'ring' one day, would be an amazing experience to do a few laps!

Has anyone here ever driven around the track?

I know that deep in my soul, i won't feel fulfilled driver and man, until i visit the ring with a RWD car!
