Re: 2007 Gumball 3000

Well, the Netherlands doesn't seem to be Gumball friendly, as they suspended 7 drivers' licenses and impounded two cars. Germany was even worse, from what I've read.

There were quite a few suspended licences when they were in Finland, too... I'm sure they racked up quite hefty speeding fines as well. According to the press (they made the headlines) the Gumballers had told the cops here that they thought we had no speed limits.

Speaking of speeding fines, the Finn who got the biggest speeding fine in this country (and probably the world) is participating this year.

I didn't know we had cars like that in this country...

Re: 2007 Gumball 3000

Well, as you probably know, all Gumball cars were supposed to arrive in Athens this afternoon and shortly after, they would be on display at Zappio for all the fans that would be there. Well, guess what happened. Everything was set up and ready to welcome all 120 vehicles and their crews at 20:00, but they never showed up! The reason? All cars got stuck at the airport customs of Athens! Now, the organizers at Zappio were trying to give an explanation to all the people who were waiting there, why all cars got stuck at the airport. Some said that this happened probably because all airport custom officers were striking today, since it's the 1st of May, and that there was no other way to pass the cars. Another reason is that the cars were not allowed to enter the country because their owners didn't have the right car papers. They also told us that all drivers had already arrived at the hotel and that they and their cars would fly to Tirana tomorrow first thing in the morning. It also heard that all vehicles wan't be able to pass through Germany on their way back to London. I guess they wan't let them pass the German borders when they arrive there. Well, after hearing all this tonight over there at Zappio, I didn't know what to believe myself. Maybe it's all just justifications. The thing is, that after a long wait of almost 4 hours, me and all other people who were there, didn't get to see the cars of our dreams. What a shame! At least my day wasn't totally ruined. You see, the 6th Historic Acropolis Rally starded today and I was there to see all those great classic cars that were taking part. I took a lot of great photos. I'm gonna open a new thread and post them tomorrow (well most of them, since I've got slow internet connection and it's gonna take a while to upload them).

That's true. Xzibit is one of the two who lost their licence in Holland.

One of the impounded cars was a 997 Turbo that got cought speeding over 200 km/h TWICE.

I have made some videos of the event. I'll upload them when I have time!!!

That's right from what I've heard. It's ok that the German police did their job.

Nobody wants to spoil their party, but reckless speeding on public roads isn't very clever.

...Which means thank God i did go there. I started from Patra yesterday morning, planning to stop at some time in Loutraki to eat and then head to Athens. But, in stead, spending all the day in Loutraki...

PS. Go ahead and post the Pics from the Historic Acropolis Rally! If possible, i will participate, too, in it in two years time!

Re: 2007 Gumball 3000

Gumball 2007 is over`? tragic accident

Press release from Gumball 3000 more then 24 hours after the incident. We hope more drivers follow Team Polizei’s example and withdraw from the rally as that’s the only appropriate thing to do after this tragedy…

Gumball 3000 is very saddened to announce a road accident which occurred yesterday, May 2nd, involving a participating vehicle and a local vehicle in Macedonia. Exact details are still filtering through, but below are the facts as of midday May 3rd 2007 issued by the Macedonian authorities.

An adult Macedonian male aged 67 died in hospital from a heart attack following the incident where the two cars collided. The participants in the rally were held in custody last night with a preliminary court judgement expected today.

Organisers of the rally would like to express its deepest condolences to the family of the victim for this tragic accident.

Maximillion Cooper, founder of the Rally says: “It is with extreme sadness I have to make an announcement of this nature in the events nine year history.. The event is organised with each local authorities support and permission, and drivers are under strict stipulation by abide by the laws and road regulations of the country they are driving through. It is extremely sad for this unfortunate accident to have occurred. I am informed that the incident was reported immediately by the drivers. Both drivers are extremely traumatised by this occurrence.
