![]() | Re: AUTO TROPHY 2005 - the winners are? Hmm, they counted the Mini as a German car, even though the brand is British and it's made in England, because it's owned by BMW? But they counted the Bentley Flying Spur as Foreign even though, despite it being a British brand and some being built in England, it's also made in Germany and owned by VW? Odd. Anyhow, is Autozeitung a mainstream motoring magazine, or a more specialist motoring magazine? I get the idea that often the very people that buy motoring magazines are already more in the 'drivers' segment of the population, even if it is a mainstream magazine. It means they're perhaps slightly set against Mercedes' more comfort and luxury oriented offerings, and keener on the driver involvement side. Nevertheless, Mercedes had a rather poor showing. That the R-class won in its segment probably really only says much about the VW T5 and Sharan. |

Once again, the A8 won those comparisons on the simple fact its CHEAPER, and not the better overall car. Mercedes image and reputation seems to have taken a pounding in its home market and it clearly shows. Problem with these surveys is that they are not statistically accurate, and that it is mailed our to magazine readers suggests it may not represent the views of the population at large.

LOL yes Just_me, I am aware Germany has more than 90 thousand people. I was trying to say the sample is drawn from a particular segment of the population, and therefore only represents the views of that segment, and does not necessarily reflect the actual view of the widespread population. If you wanted to know what the overall German population thought, a very different sampling method would be needed.

![]() ![]() | Re: AUTO TROPHY 2005 - the winners are? Im not crying. Audi and BMW deserve the success they have achieved, and MB deserves what they got after many years of crap reliability and cars that simply did not justify their price premiums. Somone in Germany please posts a copy to MB Headquarters. Make sure they read it and weep. ![]() |
