Fine, disqualify me. Did anybody here HONESTLY expect me to beat NevadaJack, or MikeJ, or you? FCS, I'm a college student and amature photographer who has what amounts to a point-and-shoot. Ya'll got your digital SRLs and photo-editing software it seems; I'm scrounging enough money together to take my girlfriend up for dinner.

Most of the people are three or four levels above ANYTHING I could dream of taking pictures of.

you need to take it easy. he was just explaining the rules to you. if you arn't comfortable displaying your pictures in a competition feel free to post them in the other photogrpahy thread or start a new thread if you like. i know photography can seem intimidating, but its just for fun.

I'm taking it easy. But it doesn't exactly feel good to enter a competition and see that you took ZERO votes that week. Trust me, you can check my general entry last week and see that number next to my photo.

zetableh, take it easy! Do you think everybody of us were taking beautiful pictures at the beggining? No, nobody did! You have to practice, it's simple. When I first started taking pics and enetering I also had no votes but later on, I started winning competitions. Remember, you have to practice.
And no, not all of us have SLRs, many of us are amateurs that just like to take photos. I have a € 300 Nikon. SLRs cost more than €1500.

Zetableh, don't take a low score personal! Last week I entered the competition with a pretty nice photo, but I also got zero votes . That's just the way it is... Maybe people really liked your photo (like me), but decided to cast their vote on someone else's picture because they liked it a little bit more. Just keep on trying man, your photos are really good.

Like every week, I voted in all honesty for the photo that appealed to me the most; this time I went for Choleric's pic, because I am impressed how he could make a pool of water look like some other substance

Boy, do I feel flattered or what. I've never considered myself the one to beat.
Anyway, there's no need to put yourself down, you've submitted a very nice image that definitely has the potential to gather votes from people other than yourself.
I know what it feels like to get zero votes, as do most (if not all) of the people actively participating in these contests. I suppose the problem is that there aren't enough voters... Last week there were 24 voters and 10 pictures to vote for.

Like everyone said, take this easy. It's a friendly competition and I'm no stranger to having zero votes everytime I enter the competition. It just shows that the voter group for that competition may have different tastes and as El Zorro said, competition's pretty stiff so people may like your photo but like others even better.

I voted for your Maserati photo and I was rooting for it right from the start, if that's any consolation.

Zetableh that was in no way a personal attack on you, I was in fact just explaing the rules to be fair to everybody.

I'm a poor college student as well and I dont have an slr either, I do almost everything with a point and shoot. You just shoot pictures until you find some you like, my photo library is full of crappy pictures just occasional I find some I really like.

Your photos have all been nice, hell I voted for you in the automotive competition. And, I know how it feels to get no votes, I have entered photos that I thought were awesome then proceeded to get no votes in the competition. The fact is, there is a lot of talent here and like MikeJ said, very few voters here so if anything we need more people to vote in these threads.

Don't be discouraged...I have been shooting pictures for over 60 years and I am still an amateur. I have also gotten no votes on this forum and have failed to get honorable mention in a host of other contests through the years. And don't think the camera has that much to do with a good picture...as I said many times, it is the "eye" of the photographer that determines a good picture from a bad one.

The purpose of all photo contests is to promote taking pictures and this is the way to improve your techniques and skills. Shoot more pictures and continue to post and one day you may find that you have a winner...:-)))
