Paris Hilton and Stavros in nightclub crash

Paris Hilton might love the limelight but her boyfriend's attempts to avoid the paparazzi appear to have caused him to crash Hilton's $300,000 Bentley last night.

After a evening spent partying at an Los Angeles nightclub with friends including Kimberly Stewart and MTV star Talan Torriero, Greek millionaire Stavros Niarchos tried to drive away in Hilton's sportscar while covering his face with his jacket.

TV footage shows the unsighted Niarchos gunning it straight into a parked truck in the club's parking lot. As he reverses, pictures show a nasty gash across the bonnet of the Bentley Continental GT.

After a few seconds, the car backed up then sped away, narrowly missing a bystander.

Cameras later filmed police officers with the stopped Bentley and the occupants standing outside the automobile.

Torriero says, "I'm the only sober one, let's just go," and offers to drive, according to the video.

Paris thanked the police officers, who let the celebrity bad-girl and her companions go. Hilton blew the officers a kiss and says, "We love the police."

After being questioned, a distraught Niarchos reportedly walked off with paparazzi in tow leaving Paris and friends behind.

Photographers at the scene said he then tried to outrun them.

"He went off on a mad dash and jumps a fence approximately eight-feet high," one said.

Niarchos eventually returned to the car and the couple drove off.

TMZ, who were filming the drama as it unfolded, noted that no sobriety tests were conducted.

"After reviewing the tape, I can see where there could be some concerns about the appropriateness of the officers' actions," Hollywood-area police captain Michael Moriarty said in a television news interview.

"There will be an investigation into that to determine if they acted appropriately or not."

Police Lt. Paul Vernon confirmed that the officers' actions were being investigated, but noted there was no report of an accident and that it wasn't clear whether there were legal grounds to perform sobriety checks.

"If an officer can't place a person behind the wheel, they won't be able to arrest anyone for driving under the influence," Vernon said.

Video showed Hilton on the lap of a man in the front seat of the stopped Bentley and an officer making her sit properly in the car, Vernon said.

"The person driving is not the same person who was driving when the car hit the truck. He walked away. The accident did not happen in the officers' presence,'' Vernon said.

Last month, Hilton confirmed her new relationship with Niarchos, Mary-Kate Olsen's ex-boyfriend.

The socialite called off her engagement to Greek shipping heir Paris Latsis just weeks earlier. The fate of the $3 million diamond engagement ring he gave her remains unknown.

Story sucks, but what can you do, thee Papp... need to be controlled more. This may have been the guys fault, but thruthfully if the Papp. wasn't allowed to be all over people things would have worked out different!
