![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Blu-ray vs HD DVD Universal Re-Affirms HD DVD Support Thu Jan 10, 2008 at 06:39 PM ET Responding to published reports that its commitment to backing HD DVD exclusively has ended, Universal has issued a new statement of support for HD DVD. "Contrary to unsubstantiated rumors from unnamed sources, Universal's current plan is to continue to support the HD DVD format," said Ken Graffeo, executive vice president of HD strategic marketing for Universal Studios Home Entertainment and co-president of the HD DVD Promotional Group. Graffeo's comments follow a report in yesterday's Variety that Universal's agreement to exclusively support HD DVD had ended and had not been renewed. The report went on to speculate that both Universal and Paramount could switch sides soon, ending the high-def format war instantly. A Universal spokesperson told us this afternoon that the studio plans to issue new upcoming HD DVD title announcements in the near future. The HD DVD Promotions Group is also said to be planning its own statement regarding the rumors of a Universal switch to format neutrality. ![]() | Re: Blu-ray vs HD DVD I did not follow the war at all. I have to say, video is not really essential for me. I actually have no TV, and it is almost 2 years now that I don't have one (I'm student, and no TV in my different but all fabulous one-piece homes) and I have to say, it does not really bother me. I use my computer to see films, sometimes buy one or two DVDs. That's all. So HD-DVD or Blu-Ray Disc, for me it is science-fiction ... I am not really convinced by the image of the flat-TV I see in the shops. Not good when there are big moves or travellings I find... Honestly, I don't see any difference between DVD, HD or Blu-Ray. Nor between HD-Ready or not... What are the advantages of a HD or Blu-Ray over a DVD? Only that you can have an interview of the actors that is 2 times longer than the film? Knowing that I want a film, not thousands of bonus and interviews and all that stupid stuff you find actually... I always buy single versions, not the one with 8 DVDs for a 1h30 film... And will Blu-Ray or HD replace the DVD or will it stay "optionnal"? Sorry if I sound a bit outdated... |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Blu-ray vs HD DVD I can sort of understand where you are coming from. For many people its really no big a deal to watch a movie on DVD / Blu Ray / HD I am however all for quality. The clearer/crisper the sound/picture quality the better. Basically Blu-Ray and HD are highly competitive next generation formats which replace DVD. In full high definition (1080p) movies are almost 3 times the clarity of a DVD. Blu Ray also offers greater sound quality. Alot of my friends say similair things. They just say " What? Whats the difference? It looks just like DVD to me". Haha, They dont seem to notice any difference but I personally believe theres a remarkable difference.not that its a bad thing. I respect your opinion. I suggest giving yourself time and watching one of your favourite movies in Blu Ray / HD Format on an HD capable screen. Im sure you will be impressed. IMO blu ray will replace DVD eventually over time since it is the format of the future just the same way the DVD replaced VHS. I hope this helps. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask and I shall try and answer you the best I can. |

![]() | Re: Blu-ray vs HD DVD So basically it goes with a full HD-TV, right? These TV has a better definition that the DVD can't use, you need HD/Blue for that. And it allows more bonus and interviews on the same disc... I'll have to check the difference. But for me, a DVD is already very good, enough I would say... I've never really watched a HD/Blu on a HD-TV, that's right. Concerning the cables...it is often the forgotten element in an installation. I know it because, if I am no image fan, I love music and sound, so I know that you need a good cable if you have a good stereo. It's logically the same for a video installation. Anyway...I have no TV at the moment, so I won't buy high definition equipment in a near future, that's for sure . Thanks for the answer you two. |
