Racist Toddlers in the UK

Toddlers who dislike spicy food 'racist'
By Rosa Prince, Political Correspondent

Toddlers who turn their noses up at spicy food from overseas could be branded racists by a Government-sponsored agency.

The National Children's Bureau, which receives £12 million a year, mainly from Government funded organisations, has issued guidance to play leaders and nursery teachers advising them to be alert for racist incidents among youngsters in their care.

This could include a child of as young as three who says "yuk" in response to being served unfamiliar foreign food.

The guidance by the NCB is designed to draw attention to potentially-racist attitudes in youngsters from a young age.

It alerts playgroup leaders that even babies can not be ignored in the drive to root out prejudice as they can "recognise different people in their lives".

The 366-page guide for staff in charge of pre-school children, called Young Children and Racial Justice, warns: "Racist incidents among children in early years settings tend to be around name-calling, casual thoughtless comments and peer group relationships."

It advises nursery teachers to be on the alert for childish abuse such as: "blackie", "Pakis", "those people" or "they smell".

The guide goes on to warn that children might also "react negatively to a culinary tradition other than their own by saying 'yuk'".

Staff are told: "No racist incident should be ignored. When there is a clear racist incident, it is necessary to be specific in condemning the action."
Warning that failing to pick children up on their racist attitudes could instil prejudice, the NCB adds that if children "reveal negative attitudes, the lack of censure may indicate to the child that there is nothing unacceptable about such attitudes".

Nurseries are encouraged to report as many incidents as possible to their local council. The guide added: "Some people think that if a large number of racist incidents are reported, this will reflect badly on the institution. In fact, the opposite is the case."

Re: Racist Toddlers in the UK

I don't know what to think.

Alot of people are by nature sceptic to thing's they have never experienced, even those who are not racists.

For now this seems like another political act simply for the purpose of giving people an impression that they are doing something.

I think it is absolutely outrageous. I object to kindergarten teachers being used to instill social values (as directed by a government agency) in children.

It seems to me that there is a desire in much of the western world to socially engineer the next generation through government agencies ...rather than allow parents to raise their children.

Couldn't agree more Rob. A generation of clones. Not that previous generations weren't either, but it's seemingly getting worse every decade.

"This could include a child of as young as three who says "yuk" in response to being served unfamiliar foreign food."

Let's face it. That's absolutely ridiculous. It's amazing that something so innocent could be taken as being racial. What really pisses me of is how many things these days are being interpreted as being racial; to the point where it's clearly gone beyond absurd. The fact is that if you don't automatically embrace another of a different ethnicity (and their culture - beliefs, styles, foods), your immediately tagged as a racist...which is completely idiotic.

Freedom of speech doesn't even exist anymore.

thats exactly what any and every public school has ever done since established.

Do you think American kindergarten teachers would teach kids the British view of the American revolution or that our glorious founding fathers were womanizers and slave holders? No theyre going to be taught that America is the greatest land on the earth and etc...

Teachers instilling social values and norms on children hardly anything new and public schools are a government agency. Even private schools do it, by instilling religious belief in kids for example.

Re: Racist Toddlers in the UK

Is this how they justify the 12 million they get a YEAR????

"This could include a child of as young as three who says "yuk" in response to being served unfamiliar foreign food."

I'll say something just as stupid for a lot less!

As for public schools, yes they program social behavior and the "ant worker" mentality to every child.

God forbid independent thought and coloring out of the lines!

That is true I guess Jeff ...but do you not think this is taking it to absurd levels?

BTW, I went to a private Christian school ...and I've never been to church since

Re: Racist Toddlers in the UK

It's quite typical... Our society gives less and less freedom to the citizens, always for "a good reason": terrorism, racism, safety in the city...

The government is seen as responsible for everything that happens in our life, and in the same time it is trying to interfere and influence all what we do and think...

It is really Mommy-Daddy government and its son the citizen, and Mommy won't allow us to get out late at night...

Re: Racist Toddlers in the UK

I found this " forced multiculturalism" a bit questionable ...

Especially in Europe there is a trend immigrants don't need to adopt to a new (native) culture & country - due pluralistic, tolerant & multicultural approach governments are exercising / promoting / forcing.
Of course immigrants must respect common laws & rules, and acquire some basic language skills for a basic communication with "outer world" - but that's it. They can retain all the customs & habits from the original homeland - even they are not compatible with the habits in their new country.

Immigrants are not encouraged to adopt to the new (native) customs, food, fashion, religion, political system, system of values etc.

But ...

Very often the native people are encouraged, or even forced to accept the new customs & culture & religion immigrants brought into the country. Otherwise they are labeled as racists or xenophobes, and in some cases they are even prosecuted.

I found this forced "positive discrimination" of immigrants very unbalanced & unfair.

Forcing someone to adopt (even if it the case natives are forced to accept immigrants) is not natural, and very dangerous. Of course tolerance has to be promoted, but in a very discrete & delicate way - without being forced into it. Otherwise a rejection can be created - and the "tolerance lesson" would produce a completely opposite result.

I do not understand why such differentiation: immigrants are not encouraged to adopt to the new situation (they can practice all their original habits & customs), while the natives are (have to accept immigrants & their habits + customs). I think this is not very wise policy, and can be very counterproductive in the long-run.

No need to say I found this UK "yuk" campaign very outrageous. Not liking curry, and you are labeled a racist??? C'mon!
Such government action will turn people into xenophobes, or even racist - not preventing them from becoming one of them.

So basically when getting a suspicious burger you can label it "rubbish", but you can't do the same in the case of kebap, curry, Chinese sweet-sour pork, tacco etc - since that would be a racist act.
