Autoweek: VW's future model plan.

2006
Touareg: Facelifted, the SUV offers a 3.6-liter 280-hp V6 gas engine. U.S. sales start by fourth quarter
Cross Golf: Off-road-inspired model addition

2007
Golf Wagon: New Jetta-based load hauler
Compact SUV: Production version of Concept A show car offered in front- and four-wheel drive. Big things are expected by the home office for this in the United States
Minivan: Joint-venture seven-seater built alongside upcoming Chrysler minivans in Canada

2008
Polo: Fifth-generation subcompact hatch under development with eye toward possible sales as entry-level U.S. model. Three- and five-door hatch and sedan versions planned
Scirocco: See main story; produced in Portugal alongside Eos
Golf/Rabbit: Sixth-generation, Europe’s perennial best-seller overhauled in a bid to make it cheaper to produce and boost VW’s bottom line
Passat coupe: Mercedes-Benz CLS fighter with a sleek coupe profile and four-door layout will be built alongside the (facelifted for 2008) sedan and wagon

2009
Touran: Golf-based compact MPV renewed. Possible U.S. entry
Jetta: Sixth incarnation of VW’s compact sedan. The U.S. version may ditch costly multilink rear suspension for a return to torsion beam. Production stays in Mexico
Polo MPV: Subcompact, unlikely to head Stateside
Polo cabriolet: Affordable cloth roof convertible with two-plus-two layout. Possible starter for North America
Touareg: Second-generation SUV developed in joint venture with Porsche (Cayenne) and Audi (Q7). Adds gasoline-electric hybrid model, direct injection for V6 and V8. W12 replaced with conventional V12 by Audi
Phaeton: Second-generation upmarket sedan; will VW try to interest Americans again?

I wonder why they're phasing out the W12 for the Touareg.

Otherwise it is quite en exciting future.

The W12 is essentially two joint V6 so it's not as smooth and as refined as a V12.Also it needs more fuel cause it has more internal friction.
Audi has essentially replaced that engine with the 5.2 lt V10 that is used in S8 and S6. Of course the A8 W12 is still on sale but it will not be used in the next A8.

Next generation of VW group models will feature a new 6.5 lt V12 engine with various outputs (it's the same engine used in LP640 now but retuned for less power and more torque). The engine will be available in a diesel version also.

That's interesting. The novelty of a W12 engine isn't practical, I guess. What a waste. So the new Bentleys won't feature this engine too, I presume?

I haven't heard about Bentley but since the W12 will not be in use anymore it's obvious that they will have to use a V12.

Re: Autoweek: VW's future model plan.

I wonder when the MKIV Gofl will go on sale here, espeically since the "Rabbit" has just gone on sale here (which by the way, is an extremely well built car, sat in one the other day and it was very nice). When the R36 comes lets hope it comes in five door and w/ DSG, if it does then I'll buy one.

Re: Autoweek: VW's future model plan.

How the <bleep> can the Passat coupe be a CLS fighter when the CLS is a category miles apart from the Passat.

And if they do make the new car up to par with CLS, it should not have Passat in its name. Furthermore, if they do match the CLS, it'll be another Phaeton dud that will just cost the company money and bring nothing in return.

When will VW learn, if you want to challenge MB, make a competing model but make that car an <bleep>ing Audi!
