I disagree strongly. MB built a "four door" coiupe because it's a risk they can afford to take as being a maker of "dreams" and catering to every taste and idea in the luxury segment, though in actuality the car is nothing more than a highly stylized and glamorized E-class (it's true MB fans). The A7 is pure fantasy IMO, I'll wait until I hear something from Dr. Winterkorn make an announcement for such an idea.

The A7 has already been confirmed by Audi, in the future 3 year model plan. And yes, it cill be a big coupé.

Audi has alot of segments to fill in and flesh out. I'm not bullish on the idea that Audi will be slinging a full range of vehicles by the end of this decade. There's room for the TT and one coupe for the immediate future. A second coupe would just be reckless since Audi lacks a developed base for this kind of vehicle.

Between an A5 and the R8, Audi has it's "image car" hands very full.

I'm going to assume the "one coupe" you're speaking of is the A5?? The end of the qoute I very much agree with.

Audi of Ingolstadt will release this fall a concept car for the upcoming new Audi A7. Although the production version is not expected to be due before 2009 - first mules of the four door coupe have been sighted taking repeated laps at Germany’s race track Nürburgring. The prototype can be distinguished from its wider fenders, bigger tyres and expensive alloy wheels - painted black. The production car will get a luxury style four seat interior, frameless doors, a glass roof, and offer a choice of six different fuel and diesel V6 and V8 engines, and for the top of the line version, the Lamborghini V10.
This new model by Audi will be aimed directly at the competing Mercedes CLS, which became a best seller recently, due to the fact that Daimler-Chrysler is still the only one with this type of car on the market.
Therefore, not only Audi but also Jaguar and Volkswagen are striving to get a rival up and going as soon as possible. Jaguar’s version will be the upcoming XJ replacement and Volkswagen is developing a Passat-based coupe with four frameless doors as well.
The photos are showing: two computer images giving an artist’s impression of how the new A 7 could look like upon its release and two pictures of a prototype mule at Nürburgring.

spy pics are only of a modded RS4, with wider flares, doesn't necessarly mean A7 mule, i still am not buying a lot into this
