![]() ![]() | Frank Capra and others... I had a really interesting job when I retired from the US Navy in 1971 (I was only 39 at the time... We had the pleasure of retailing all the US Government films to the general public. This includes all the documentaries and training films, many of them made during WWII. We operated like a film distribution company producing flyers and advertising pieces and offered the products to the educational community and other interested markets. We from time to time had special events in Washington at the National Archives to more fully appreciate the history of the documentary film movement and how it got to where it is today. The program below was very special to my late wife since she absolutely adored Frank Capra films and would watch them over and over on TV. When she had the pleasure of sitting next to him at dinner prior to the event, she was overwhelmed. Mr. Capra could not believe the detail of his films that my wife had and I think he enjoyed himself also. But Capra also was a major figure in the documentary film movement when he produced the "Why We Fight" series of films. He along with Pare Lorentz and his classic "The River" were pioneers in documentary film history. John Houseman and his early association with Orson Wells when he spoofed the entire country into thinking the Martians had invaded earth was very active in the early documentary film. Just thought I would post the program showing their signatures that my wife treasured. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
