I see your point, but unfortunately there is a difference between the size of the US and the size of many other countries. When a country is not that big--not in all cases though but in most--they can exert more power. This power can be seen in the form of education or whatever. Many countries also have different types of economies. Some are service based while other are industrial based(there are hybrids and the list can go on on how many different types of economies there are). The point here is that the US is a big country where the demographics are spread out. There are so many cultures that mingle together. So, certain states where unfortunately people favor or follow a certain belief. I am pretty sure, though, that for the most part there are ignorant people. The US is the 3rd largest country in the world. Take into consideration how many immigrant just to get a plain and simple job to provide for their country. When you compare the US to other european countries, you see a sense of nationalism. Many countries don't allow you to acquire a citizenship--the US does. Do you see the difference? There are so many different types of people with so many different types of backgrounds. So, if the majority is like that, do you expect them to know little intricate details? I am amazed that there was a question about Al-Qaeda and some couldn't answer it. I would guess that even those that believe in the US's position should know who Al-Qaeda is and how bad they are--but I guess that is not the case.

!! Unfortunately this thread is turning into a political thread. It should have been closed, so can we please deviate away from this?

I would like to say that you have a point, however. The truth of the matter is that a country is composed of many different kinds of people. So, remember, not everyone agrees with everyone else. Trust me, there are people who don't agree--and there are a lot--with many things the US does and they live in the US. The same goes for any country. Unless you have a country of robots where every single person will say the samething and believe the samethings, you will, in the end, have human exchance at its most intricate level--the complex human individual which is at the end of the day, a component of society but a unique component of society. Basic point: not everyone thinks the same and is the same.

Going back to the issue at hand. I am going to close this thread later on in the day. I want to give everyone a chance to see how we had a civilized discussion and ended it in good faith. Nevertheless, it has to be closed because this truly is not an appropriate thread, and there is not really anything here we can discuss other than negative things. We can try, but it will ultimately either die out and move on to a different topic, or will move full throttle with negativity. I hope that everyone that reads this thread understands.

That explains why most of American cars are hateful dinosaurs that simply don't work outside the U.S.

Re: Why the world thinks Americans are stupid

Now there's a strong statement.

But you have a point. I've experienced over the net that Americans don't interact as well with people from other parts of the world as well as Europeans and Asians for example.

Michael, I trust you that you'll close this thread before it goes too far?

Re: Why the world thinks Americans are stupid

Yep michael..lets close this case.. i agree with you..
one cant say that every one in a country is this way or another..
its impossible..
so with these kinds of discussions you have to generalize allthough its wrong and horrible..

so thnx for a nice conversation man...

PS

Re: Why the world thinks Americans are stupid

So what ... Some Americans are stupid (including some Governors) ...

Nothing exceptional. Stupid people are everywhere. In every country.

But those videos are very funny indeed. Especially the Canadian one.

To our American members: c'mon don't be so sensitive. It's a joke / comedy show. Why take it so seriously? A bit capability of self-irony wouldn't hurt.

Or the world is gone so mad that even jokes are considered as insults / offences.

Regarding the debate I had with Michael lately it seems there are some deep cultural & philosophical differences between "ours & yours" sense of humor.
