Besides, 99% of the mainstream buyers (aka not the freaks) won't use 60% of the functions anyways. They just call, take pictures listen to music and browse the net. That's all I am going to do when I buy mine when it is released here in Europe anyways.

I am not so sure, I dont think this "naked" version will be accepted in Japan same way as I usa, no video support, no mms, only one small attachment for email, keyboard require 2 hands, no options for ringtone change, no mp3 import, camera 2.1 MP or something, nope not my cup of tea

I'd love to see a side-by-side of the iPhone loading the NYT on Edge vs a Samsung BlackJack or similar loading the same page using 3G.

Why not just come out and admit that you're part of the club that wants to see the worst in the iPhone because, for whatever reason, you find the thing intellectually offensive. It's sorta like "What retard would be fooled by an excellent UI?! Not me. I don't fall for that stuff." All this noise about what the iPhone is missing is simply cupholders in a BMW.

The UI is the killer app here. I have a Samsumg whatchamacallit, and I don't use even 30% of its features. I gave away my "cell phone power user" card a long time ago. I woud be hard pressed to notice any of of the supposedly glaring omissions that cripple the iPhone. I've never removed the battery from my phone, I've never put a new storage card in my phone, despite the fact that it's got removable memory... I take video with my phone from time to time, which the iPhone lacks, but they're really grainy videos that are almost unintelligible.

You are right Osna, most of the features of many phones are hardly used by the majority of their owners.

I wouldn't have a problem with the iPhone's shortcomings if it was priced accordingly but this is not a "budget" cellphone -- what you are essentially paying for is a piece of high-tech jewelery.

I have a sony erricson K800i... great phone but its very bukly and quite annoying at work...

This iPhone looks quite slim and slender... Any idea when it will be avaliable in Australia and what services will provide it???

A friend of mine got his the first day it came out and he let me check it out for a couple of minutes. It's slimmer and lighter than I thought it would be. I think it's the best touch screen device I've ever used, responds to every touch. The main menu button is an actual button.

I would love to get one, but only if they're not sold by AT&T. I like my T-mobile plan, and I'm not willing to go under a 2-year contract for a phone.

I don't agree with you about the jewelry part at all Rob. If you take the development costs of the iPhone's OS and applications into consideration, they most certainly dwarf what competitors pour into similar products. The iPhone seems like it was an "All the King's horses" effort - so I don't see a problem with non-hardware costs being offset at retail.

I think once direct competitors to the iPhone start to surface, Apple's asking price won't seem so steep. Take The LG Prada, for instance.
