This is really strange. A unique racing car transpoter from 1955.
Is that a toy model or an actual car?

It's great nonetheless

Re: Detailed Look At The New Mercedes-Benz Museum

It is real. Actually, it is a replica of the original; only one was built and it was destoyed long ago, so Mercedes-Benz created an exact replica for the museum

Re: Detailed Look At The New Mercedes-Benz Museum

This car was real special. In my opinion, it was doing 170 km/h (with "loading") and was produced to transport damaged racingcars.

Re: Detailed Look At The New Mercedes-Benz Museum

Imagine being a bystander in the mid to late 1950s and seeing this blue truck transport Mercedes' racing cars. You'd be thinking this little truck came from another planet - or from the future!

I'd say the design was pretty radical for its period. The next radical truck to emerge from Mercedes-Benz were the LK series, lovingly referred to as Kurzhaubers (short hood).

Picture and text from my MB Museum Trip...

1960 Mercedes-Benz LK-388 “Kipper”: I love these 'Kurzhauber' (short nose) trucks as I grew up with them. The design was revolutionary as trucks had previously been designed with the wheels in front of the engine, the Kurzhauber broke this tradition. 10,809cc 6-cylinder diesel, 180-horsepower, 75 km/h top speed (47 mph). When my father worked for San Miguel, these were the trucks that delivered the products to the shops. The Kurzhaubers had an incredible 16 year production span from 1960-1976.

Re: Detailed Look At The New Mercedes-Benz Museum

I love your very personal enthusiasm for MB Chris; for you, Mercedes is more than just an auto manufacturer ....your life and fondest memories are tied up with Mercedes-Benz. You truly are the epitome of a German car Fan --- not just a car fan who happens to be German
