Of course I realize that there have to be financial restrictions because everything is so very expensive these days, but I still think DCX management need to be more daring with Maybach ...afterall, it was the sheer audacity (and perhaps outrageousness) of the Rolls-Royce Phantom that is it's greatest attribute.

I was reading an article about the Mercedes W100 (yes I can't get enough of that old limo ) it mentioned how Paul Bracq, Mercedes' chief designer in the 1960's, though retired, still designs concepts for modern-day Rolls-Royces, Mercedes-Benzes, and Maybachs ......why oh why don't DCX at least look at the great man's ideas ...the 600 is afterall one of the truly greatest cars of all time ...is it possible he could create another masterpiece for Maybach ....I certainly believe he could.

Alas, I am dreaming.

Interesting to hear about Paul Bracq still doing concept designs
I agree with the comments you made regarding the issue of boardroom/designers&engineers.

I sincerely hope they will pull this one off. IMHO pulling the name of Maybach down would be sacrilegious. They should not be allowed to fail. (obviously I am dreaming here too )

LOL -- well I'm sure like me, you still believe that Mercedes are very capable of building the world's greatest car -- technically the Maybach is almost faultless ...and to be honest, even the design is looking better as time goes on ...if only they would put some decent rims on them.

The 57S is really a magnificent car.

Oh yes, it's not bad at all. As I was saying in another thread (Maybach/ MB - poll), if I had to choose a luxury car, Maybach would be it.

AMEN! My goodness with this guy and Brunno still around, why they hell won't they let either one of them take a crack at a Maybach? What is there to loose at this point? Not much!

Re: Is A Compact Version Of The Maybach Coming?

Maybach should compete with the Arnage, which goes for about 225K here in the U.S. not the Flying Spur which cost LESS than the S65 AMG here. Start at the Arnage with one sedan (which is where the 57S should have been priced at - 250K) and go from there with whatever they want, another sedan, a coupe, a giant 4-seat convertible (like Bentley and Rolls) or something different like a Laundualet or something. Maybach needs something stunning and stunningly different from a Mercedes.

Yes -- I should mention that Bruno Sacco also worked on the design of the W100.

this is true... the only way i see a newer evalution is if they make a coup,, grand tourer type... making it smaller takes out the luxuries of the car....

maby a lighter car... ....

in the end i must agree with alx... people who consider a maybach... dont think of price....

its a whole other category... and usualy dont want to be noticed.. or they would have bought a RR PHantom..

just my 2 cents

Well the few times I have seen a Maybach go past me on the street, everybody noticed -- lets not underestimate the Maybach's ability to get noticed -- the car certainly does make an impression and is not at all anonymous on the road.

I'm also not entirely convinced that Maybach buyers are so completely different to S class buyers ....I would even suggest that most Maybach buyers would more likely buy an S 600 (rather than a Phantom) if the Maybach did not exist.

DaimlerChrysler is trying to decide whether to sell a new sedan positioned between the Mercedes S600 and Maybach 57 as a bigger Mercedes or smaller Maybach, according to DCX chairman Dieter Zetsche.
Rival BMW - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER at the Paris Motor Show it had decided to build a new entry-level Rolls-Royce positioned between the BMW 760Li and Rolls-Royce Phantom.
Zetsche told the U.K.'s AutoExpress DaimlerChrysler has not yet decided if it wants to fill the gap, but "obviously, there is some space between the price range of the current Maybach and the top Mercedes."
