How can you know when you yourself haven't died?

Truthfully, there is no way for any of to really know the answer, but we can certainly believe what we'd like.

Quote:
When it comes to coming to a reasoning for our existence and all that is around us, I know for a fact that it all just didn't happen at the explosion of a dust cloud, and gradually we just happened to evolve from multi cellular organisms, then morphed to monkeys, which in turn processed "somewhere" out of nowhere into human beings. There's no way that could have happened when humans have a mental capacity and understanding that eludes all other creation, the kind that has enabled us to single handily rule the earth for thousands upon thousands(or however long you believe we've been here) years, and find ways to cope with the elements that we cannot control, write books, develop reasoning, etc.
Well, I could not disagree anymore. I'm a Mr. Darwin if you will; believing ever thing we have ever accomplished and done is a result of evolution. I do not believe in a so called 'higher force'.

Furthermore; I do not believe, as some would suggest, that humans are anymore important than other evolutionary steps (or as what you would refer to as 'creations'). I don't buy it. I would agree that humans are generally on a wider plain of thinking (not superior though) than the animal kingdom; however, I personally do not see that as some almighty himself has deligated, but rather an evolutionary step.

Here's a wrench in my personal beliefs; don't expect many to agree..

Having said that, I don't necessarily view human evolution as a postive. I really don't think we are all that 'superior' to anything thing else. In fact, I think we are probably worst evolutionary steps on the earth. It's widely known that an animal only takes what it needs to live it's life, the human race otherhand, does quite the opposite.I view the human race as something horrible which is systematically taking it's self apart and will only realize it until it's too late.

Quote:
All of this could not have happened by chance, that I refuse to believe.
And I refuse to believe otherwise.

Quote:
Evolution, IMO, is just a way people cope with their physical existence using the physical world as a basis for their beliefs, as where faith on the other hand is defined as the "belief in things unseen".
I personally see God-believing religions as a way for people to feel as if they are something more in life - to feel that they are something more than an organism walking the face of the earth. Something to control the fear in one's life.

Anyways..

No offense intended Deutsch, those are my opinions. I respect you're views.

No, I am not a creationist nor one that ascribes to the theory of "intelligent design", I'm Christian(something that doesn't seem to be very welcomed or "popular" these days, not sure that it's ever been?)

Quote:
I am not dissing your views, but how do you explain the great evidence we have to support evolution -- which is more than we can say for evidence we have to support the existence of God -- evolution is not really a theory, it's a fact.

The Roman Catholics said the earth was the center of the universe until they finally could no longer argue with the scientific facts of the matter -- Galileo got into a lot of trouble over that.
No one knows for sure what all that evidence means, mans methods of discovery and scientific reasoning are not infallible, and it will only be one day, maybe perhaps after we're all long dead, that man discovers yet another "missing link" in earths history and all of "evolution" is scrapped for the dustbin of history. Besides that, it's easy to believe in only what you see, people want what's tangible out of life, and anything that they see as "intangible", where people don't understand what it is beyond they're control and physical realm, they object(that's my experience at least). One thing is for sure, though, faith is required to believe that there is a God, that's if only the physical evidence of his creation is not enough to satisfy you. I believe people make a choice, and the product of that choice is a lifestyle. Whether you're a Creationist, Darwinist, it's all result of a choice, product of "free will".

In addition, I also believe that enough people DON'T read the Bible. No not for conversion or getting someone who doesn't believe to do so, but for understanding. Almost everyone I know that ascribes to evolution or atheism has never touched a Bible or gotten some sort of understanding on what it means and says, when it's the one thing they're completely against, and yet don't have a clue about anything it says other than what someone else "said". Of course it's only if you're interested, and no one can be forced to open their mind to a different perspective if it's not their own decision, but I do believe that the Bible has a lot of explanations/answers for people that would never know the answers to their questions about such things as evolution, etc. if they didn't open it up and read it.

Lastly, though our opinions/beliefs are different, I respect everyone, regardless. I'm not one of these pistol whipping Christians out to get people and read them the right act about life. Believe it or not, most Christians aren't like that, at least today, and I most certainly can't speak nor be accountable for every Christian.

Re: Do you Believe in Life after Life?

Thank you for your reply Deutsch. BTW, I am not an atheist.

I don't understand why Darwinism has to be seen as anti-Christian.

What do Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, etc. think about evolution?

I don't know either! But thanks to that I spent many of my school days in Mother Pierre-Carla's Office.

Thanks the problem of thinking children and structured religion, the stamp of what you are supposed to believe is placed at an early age.

But hey, everyone has the privilege of living this life as they see it fit, but very few if any can say that've never pondered the idea of faith.

I respect your beliefs Deutsch and I am not going to argue any of your points, because it leads to nowhere, but Dont say you know for a fact that didnt happen, thats just a bit arrogant. Thats a belief not a fact.

Yep, I believe in a life after life. Our bodies may demolish, burn, deteriorate (or whatever happens to them depending on how you die and whether your buried, cremated, etc.) but our souls will live on. That's my belief.

Coming from a family of Sikhs whom were originally Hindu (about 3-500 years ago), my family has many beliefs that come from Hinduism.

As for evolution, it is widely believed in Hinduism that humans are descendants of monkeys (for a lack of a better word). Evolution is accepted in Hinduism and Sikhism. As for my family, we don't believe that God just happened to make us, but rather we became what we are today, so i other words we evolved.

The only thing that Hinduism would argue about in Evolution is the conscious. Evolution is real but so is the Soul. In essence it's not exactly the same, but it is accepted. And also, we don't believe that the world is only 4-8thousand years old...our own civilization is older than that and the Vedas were written a good 2-3thousand years ago.

Amazing!
Sounds like the perfect script for a great horror movie to me!
