I don't believe in religion, but find it hard to believe that we have these amazing lives, and then it all ends!

Will be interesting to find out!

Re: Do you Believe in Life after Life?

When it comes in believing in something such as this I find myself short to answer. I don't know what to say. I was born and raised a Roman Catholic but I no longer go to church nor do I believe in the in-doctrinated system.

What boggles my mind is that I would be able to believe in scary ghostly things before I could believe in god, after life, etc. I want to believe, you know? I am not practicing atheist. Nevertheless, when I think about the universe, the stars, and how big the universe is, I start to get frustrated at the thought that we cannot begin to understand the universe in its entirety. So, I then begin to ponder on all about god, after life, etc.

I believe in a god, I suppose, its just I have been driven away because of all the church issues and evangelical people that I have met that are so obssesed and tell you that if you do not do x, y, and z that you will be slated for hell. I don't think a god would be so demanding. I don't think we know what our god would want. I don't think we know the things that so many religions claim.

Re: Do you Believe in Life after Life?

Wow Yannis, I love your avatar.

I am surprised that so many here don't believe in life beyond death.

I would be interested to know your opinions on the significance of morality.

Since the beginnings of human civilization, our whole concept of right and wrong, good and evil, has revolved around a fundamental belief in a greater power in the universe.

I think we all accept that morality is a human condition (and has much to do with humanity's anxiety about its own mortality).....the rest of the animal kingdom is not influenced or constrained by any concepts of morality.

Amazing that you bring up that point. There was a documentary on CNN about a month or so ago in which a scientist talked about how he came about in believing in god. He went from being atheist to a believer. One of his reasons is the conception that humans know what is right and what is wrong.

I also read an article of a relationship beteween teen pregnancy and religions. Surprisingly I think it was Japan that had the least amount and had the least amount of believers. When compared to the US, which is quite religious, there were so many cases of teen pregnancy. I know this may be somewhat irrelevant, I just thought I'd share it.
