But you are correct in a way. When I look at these images of a Lexus concept interior, I just wonder to myself, why the hell do they hire these designers at all - I mean, they do some beautiful work like this, and then the go a put some tacky, dumbed-down, non-descript, wood and leather "abortion" together for their production model - I just can't understand it.

They employ some great designers...so why don't they deploy their Ideas.

Slightly Loyal to benz but I like to think i do give credit where credit is due.

Your absolutely right though. How could Lexus design such a sublime interior for the concept car shown and then fit their top of the line vehicle which they believe will lead the automotive world with this pillowy abomination.

Any other interior colours available to see?

Roberto do the MM and Lexus represent what you refer to as the Americanised interpretation of what a luxury car interior should be? They certainly have some strong design simlarities. And no doubt the US is by far the largest market for the LS.

Gosh, I don't really want to go in to that again - I truly don't think Americans love these interiors any more than anyone else - I have no idea why they can't create the interiors closer to what we see in the concept cars - why always be so conservative.

edit: sorry Mr. Mercedes, to answer your question - yes, this is very much the type of "Amercanized" interior that the manufacturers assume Americans will go crazy over.

It is obvious the American designers are wanting to create more interesting interiors....if only the "suits" would get the message.

This Lincoln concept interior is really good IMO. Interiors like this would vastly improve the whole image of the brand - and not a single piece of [fake] wood in sight - what a relief!

Yes, you're right Mirage77. That combo certainly does lift the interior ambience up a notch.

But you know folks, it may be magnificently put together and it may have some of the very highest quality materials or even be sensational in its tactility but one thing is undeniable: this is a Japanese interior. A finely crafted one no doubt but still Japanese, not better, not worse, just different... just Japanese.

The Japanese just don't seem to have the interior design flair of the Germans and whilst I'd have no qualms with this interior and the image it portrays, a great many people out there just can't seem connect with these Japanese cabins as they do with the Germans. And I understand why completely.

Whilst I have the utmost appreciation for Japanese cars and what they represent, I just don't ever see myself getting as excited over one of their interiors as I do about those emanating out of Germany.

You'll probably end up buying a Japanese car for a great many, valid reasons but cutting-edge interior design isn't going to be one of them. To my mind these latest Lexus interiors lack that one thing that their German counterparts have in abundance: style.

I have very mixed feelings about that post martinbo. I certainly wouldn't say most German car interiors have an "abundance" of style at all - in fact, some of them have very little style indeed.

Re: New Lexus LS430 - Lexus Claims "Best Car in the World"

I can understand why Rob, and of course there are exceptions to the rule put forward in my statement. Generally though, as a driver of a Japanese car and a lover of cars of many nationalities I just don't get the same vibe from a Japanese interior as I do from a German one.

In this context of the new LS, I'm not comparing it with the garishly OTT Maybach's interior but rather those of its primary competitors, the A8, 7er and S-Class. Truthfully, the Lexus doesn't come close in terms of design style vs these three premium cars. The exact same could be said for IS250 whose interior is shaded by that of the 3 series for that little bit of je ne sais quoi (styling pizzazz if you will).

Sure, some VW interiors (Touran and Golf) are as dull as dishwater but on the whole there are some pretty stylish interiors coming out of Germany these days I have to say.

Yes martinbo, I do agree with you on that, the high-end German luxury cars definately have a certain "je ne sais quoi ", as you put it, that their Japanese counterpart (the Lexus) just somehow still has yet to capture.
