If we're talking at the level of ultimate performance superlatives then one has to get pedantic about comparing which model with which. If you're talking a stock EVO IX against a stock 2.5 WRX STI then on a track the EVO is faster and on the road the STI more useable and infinitely more characterful. Getting into the limited run FQ-series cars then the EVOs hand the STI its undies. But then we're not talking JDM spec 2.0 litre twin-scroll turbo engines. Legends like the WRX STI Spec C Type RA and RA-R as well as the AMAZING (looking and driving) Impreza S204 bring things back on an even footing. Outside of the JDM, adding Prodrive to the Impreza mix is almost always guaranteed to produce spectacular results notwithstanding the much lauded Impreza RB320 for the UK market. In performance terms you couldn't separate the EVOs from STIs with a piston ring. Last edited by martinbo; 06-04-2007 at 10:24 AM.

As for which is better - I think the Evo has it on styling this time around. Mitsubishi set themselves up for a very attractive Evo, so I might win this round on curb appeal alone.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Subaru Impreza STI Speculations Nah, if there's one car that doesn't need an automated, clutchless transmission it's the STI. The way that car's controls harmonise with the intent and skilled drivers inputs... let's just say that "rewarding" is such a dull word. Phwooaaarrp - beep beep beep, Phwoooaaaarrrrp - beep beep beep Not quite much out there like it. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Subaru Impreza STI Speculations Ha ha! It's horses for courses, naturally. Still, if you're on a budget and you're looking for a pinnacle driving experience you'd have to go to twice the price to come close to an STI's precision, pace, driver involvement and grin-factor. Only car I ever thought I was going to die in... it's awesome. |
