Hey james...You need this type of kitchen to go along with your modern house.

Wow, so much wood! We're looking at something more minimalistic and clean. Wood tends to give impressions of homeliness but also messiness.

Very cool house, though som blinders a pitch black tint wouldn't be a bad idea. But damn Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Chair is over popular.

Re: Coolest home ever?

He he, yeah. It is in the middle of a large rural area though -- a lot of land. There is a wonderful sculpture gallery on the property too with some important American mid-century art.

The Barcelona chairs are in their natural environment in this house, this is precisely the kind of interior they were originally designed for -- not like some of the interiors we see them used in today. Philip Johnson was a student of Mies van der Rohe's.

What greater compliment could a mentor give his apprentice, than to be inspired by his vision.

Farnsworth House designed in 1951 by Mies van der Rohe.

The chairs in the background are known as the "Tugendhat" chairs

Re: Coolest home ever?

Something a bit more recent. This was an extension built on top of a 1960s house -- looks very strange ....but I like the experimental aspect of it. It must be great for an architect to have clients who are willing to try something very unusual.

Esker Haus (esker=stratified geological formation [in Italian]) , San Candido, Italy

Re: Coolest home ever?

Here's another very interesting place, this time in the Magdalen Islands, Canada. The existing house was connected to a smaller new building via a cedar wood footbridge which cuts through both structures along an oblique axis. It was built in 2003

I have to tell you that I love this house. It totally appeals to my love of the absurd.

This reminds me of the movie which involves a glass house as well, it featured Sandra Bullock... The name of the movie escapes me at the moment.

PMed you astonmartin.
