As I said earlier, Ettore Sottsass is one of my favourite architects/designers ....his furniture is beautiful ...but it is an acquired taste I guess. He is 90 years old and has created many, many objects -- he is an extremely important designer.

Maybe you guys might be missing the point a little here. Mendini's Proust armchair is supposed to be tacky ...it is supposed to challenge our notions of good taste. It is kitsch and ridiculous. Here is some more furniture by Alessandro Mendini. This is his 'Furniture For Men' ...using gold Bisazza mosaic tiles.

Sottsass too, was inspired by the lowest level of popular culture with much of his furniture designs. His use of plastic laminates, bright garish colours, and random patterns is taken directly from fast food outlets, 1950s kitsch furniture, childrens toys, etc... Sottsass has been extremely influential over the past 25 years -- his designs destroyed the conventional ideas of 'good design' and has influenced many of the big name designers of today. Some of his objects are considered to be among the most significant of twentieth century design -- he is represented in every major art museum in the world.

Re: Villa Amista

I honestly don't have with crazy shapes and the likes but this hotel just seems to be a very bad blend of contemporary and tradition put together. The exterior is really old school with the split stairs and the rather sublime colour and then once you enter the hotel its all bright and in your face. I wouldn't have minded it if they had stuck to the same theme for the exterior as well.
Also, I didn't like the furniture much as well even though I love contemporary and artsy stuff. They just seem to have picked what everyone knows and consider to be contemporary and then seem to have chosen the brightest and most different colours of the bunch. That does not a contemporary interior maketh.

Re: Villa Amista

Some good points GrimReaper.

This is a successful interior design I think.

This is the Faena Hotel in Buenos Aires. created by French designer Philippe Starck.

This is the beautiful Hotel du Palais in Biarritz.

This is the wonderful Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat.

The Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat also has a private villa, Villa Rose Pierre

Also, check out this hotel in New York. - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTERdesigned by Philippe Starck.

Re: Villa Amista

Great posts as usually Robbie.
I actually have a picture of the red and white dinning hall in my computer. Now That I know the name of the hotel I'll try to find some more pictures of it.
The interiors you posted pictures of a very nice, especially these ones:

Totally my taste.

Re: Villa Amista

Ha, thanks GrimReaper .......I have always been interested in design.

To be honest though, as far as interior design is concerned, I wouldn't know where to start ....it is a really underrated skill.

Re: Villa Amista

That glittery couch is the same as the red one in the lobby of villa amista. It's very cool but I'm unsure it's supposed to be used in homes. As for the other furnitures you posted I'll take a set of 6 black chairs and a matching dinning table in white.

Thank for the links as well. I'll look into them during thehttp://www.germancarzone.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
weekend.
